Tanya...

If the photos are irreplaceable, you might want to look into a program such as RecoverMyFiles which can restore files from deletion, reformats, etc. You can do a Google search on file recovery to find others. I have used RecoverMyFiles and it paid for itself with one use. They are not free (RMF is $67 if downloaded), but some pictures are priceless.

How do you save online? That's interesting. Could you please tell me more?

Tanya,

I'm so sorry about your loss. It's heartbreaking to lose items such as these.

One of the things I've done is keep old negatives in my banks' safe deposit box. Even though it would be a major pain, they could be redeveloped if needed. This would also be a great place to keep CD backups of scrapbook pages and pictures.

My husband also made a similar mistake once. I had videotaped my 83-year-old uncle telling family history stories...things nobody else in the family is old enough to remember. Well, he died the following year. On the day he died, my husband confessed that he accidently taped over the tape while practicing his interviewing skills. I cried and cried but nothing could be done!
