help with slow downloads

Hello, I am fairly new to this digital scrappng stuff. I have been rying to download some things and it seems to ake forever. I can just click on 1 thing like papers or elements and it takes like an hour to download these things. Someone said it mght be because I have dial-up. Does anyone know of any way to make this better or any other suggestions as to what mght be the cause, or do I just need to suffer through? Thanks

I've read that downloading at night helps, but yes, dial-up is always going to be slow. A kit can take 3 hours or more. The only true solution is to get high speed internet. With my high speed, it takes less than 5 minutes to download a kit.

Sorry!

I'm afraid Kimberly is right. Time to get high-speed Internet access.

Yep, dial up is sllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww. We are *supposed* to be getting high speed, but they are running behind. So I'm stuck with stinky dial up. When I want to d/load something I do it at a time when I don't want to surf as well. Usually I click on 2-3 things in a kit to d/load then go do something else--take a shower, laundry, watch TV etc. Afternoon hours always take longer-- late night is okay, but I've also found that morning hours are okay too.

I think broadband is definitely faster than dial up but there are times when I feel that my broadband is no better than dial up. Like right now!...LOL.... I just purchased a fairly large kit and there are times where its downloading 1mb/sec then it drops to as low as 10k/sec! I've contacted my provided and they claim its the site that I'm downloading from...sigh.

Yes... even with a high speed cable modem.. if the site is not running on a high speed network (they too could be connected via modem!), then you will only d/l at that speed. If you run into ANY business where d/l's are taking a long time, I wouldn't visit them again. Probably a home shop that's running off a home PC.. not really a solid businsess choice.

I just can't imagine doing anything online with a modem anylonger... I hope you do get that high speed connection realll sooon.. Good luck!

Exclamation Suggestion

Hi,

I too have dial up and its a pain...I do however have one suggestion for you which may help you a bit. Get on to google and type in "download accelerator plus" its free!! It then enables you to queue up your downloads. I dial up at night before I go to bed, have all my downloads queued and by morning....they are all done!!! Hope this is of some help to you

Michelle
