I have a question about scraplifting etiquette ~~

When you scraplift a layout, I know you should either mention the person's name and the layout and what gallery it's in, or if it's on the same site you can link to the layout (which is what I prefer to do), but should you send the person a pm to let them know that you've scraplifted? I feel kind of honored when someone recreates something I've created. Any opinions here? Thanks!!!

Don't know what the rules are, but...

Yes! I pm people and let them know, and I've been pm'd in return, and really appreciate being told! For me, it's just a huge compliment to be scraplifted, and I like to know if it happens

I don't think there are any hard and fast "rules" that say you should PM the person whose layout you have used for inspiration...but with the speed in which the gallery fills up some days it's easy to miss a particular layout. I personally love it when someone PMs me to say they have "lifted" from one of my designs and sends a link. If a member has done me the honor of considering something I did lift worthy, I want to be sure to view and comment!

Exactly what Pattie said. I think it's great if you credit the original designer but I don't think it's required that you PM that person. However, the gallery is so full and I hate missing it when someone scraplifts me, so I appreciate PMs when I get them.

I thought you had to have "permission" to scraplift. I've seen some comments that say "feel free to scraplift". I guess I didn't even think about using a design without asking. I love some of the lo's I see and would love to copy them. So, as long as it's allowed and credit is given- I can scraplift right?

BUT I always try to PM anyway, before or after, so she can see all the layouts from her target. If it's just a personal scraplift, I PM after I've made it just so she can go see it.

ALWAYS credit her! Especially if you ever publish it, as you know. When scraplifting layouts from other sites, be respectful of the site you're posting it on to not link to competing sites or mention them by name. Just give the name of the author and an acronym to the site if allowed

Scraplifting is a huge compliment, and I can think of very few instances where someone would not want this. In that case, just don't post (or remove) a layout when she asks. I've never had this happen, but I can imagine for perhaps copyright reasons of a pro, it might be for personal use only, that sort of thing. But even then, I can't really see that happening

bottom line, lift away, PM just to show her the layout, be respectful of Terms of Use when posting credits

Good idea! I'm pretty famous for not coming up with any of my own ideas, so I scraplift alot. I always leave a link to that scrappers lo, but I never considered giving them a pm to let them know. I had a couple of ladies scraplift me a while back and I was on cloud nine -- I would hate to have missed it because of the speed of the gallery. Thanks for starting this thread, Liz, I'm going to start doing that!

I really like the idea of giving a pm to let someone know you've lifted them. I've done a few scraplifts, but I have never pmed the person...
