Thumbs up Finally got it to work

Well, after thousands of trys ( I figured it out. After I download an element, I went to Start/Explore and found the downloaded zipped file, unzipped it from that point, which had an icon at the top of that screen, then it went into the XP Extract process and saved it to a unzipped .jpg file. I THEN could add/insert this file into my project. It was awesome - so worth the hassle. I must be the dumbiest of all! I used to think after 40 years of teaching myself the computer I was pretty good at figuring things out, let me tell I feel very humble..... Oh well, that is what is all about, just hang in there and DON'T ever give up, huh. Thanks for the help!

gathering digital photos

I've been reading the tutorials, and have found some great information to get me started. I'm in the process of gathering digital phptos from friends, and am wondering what the best way to transfer them is. After reading some posts on one of the forums, I'm concerned the images will be degraded if the original jpg's are compressed and sent via email. Is there an efficient (and preferably free) way to have friends send me multiple photos in a format that's good for future editing? Thanks!

As long as your friends send you the original JPG and do NOT open it resave it to small size you should be fine. They can try zip several photos together using a program like winzip. This will NOT affect the quality of the JPGs. You should be able to just send the photos through email. If your email through your local ISP does not like the big files, most free email accounts (like yahoo mail) do fine with relatively large file transfers. There are also some places like photobucket and yahoo briefcase that allow you to upload and share files. I haven't used these much so I can't say too much about their limitations.

HTH!
