Help with a technique

I'm not even sure of the name of this technique. I am a PS7 user. I'm trying to make the edges of a picture blend/fray almost so the edges aren't so hard lined. Can anyone help? Provide some insight? Thanks!!!!!

yep, this is called Vingette.

Use the Marquee Tool to select the portion of the photo you want to keep. Then Select>Feather and enter around 20-50 (trial and error here). Then Select>Invert and hit Delete.

There are many more ways to do this, but for a beginner this is the easiest. If you would like some better ways that use masks, let us know!
