PLEASE HELP - Computer Virus

Y'all are my last hope! Please help!

For the past two months, my computer has been acting up. The mouse will randomly 'lose control,' flying all over the screen, and click things open or closed. This happens more often when I am viewing Internet pages.

In the past three days, it has begun to do it every 15 minutes. As you can imagine, that's pretty frustrating as the mouse will not work for a minute or two after one of its 'fits' so that I have to either rightclick + leftclick a couple times and/or hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up the Task Manager screen to get the mouse to work again... and by the time I do that, it's acting up again.

In the past three days, I have done the following to try to fix it:

(1) run Microsoft's beta version Spyware program
(2) run a 15 day trial version of Norton Anti-virus
(3) re-installed Windows

These things have helped the frequency, but not eliminated the problem. I have searched Microsoft's and Symantec's websites for viruses, but it is difficult to know which one to download and run without a description on site of what the virus does. I think Microsoft's spyware program searches for all W.32 viruses, so I guess that's not what's wrong with my computer.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Know of a better anti-virus/spyware program to run? Know someone I can ask who would know what's wrong?

TIA!

okay, I know this is going to sound stupid...but... do you have a wireless mouse? I had one and it would do that when it was running low on batteries... don't know if that is your problem or not, but just thought I would throw that out to you

Hope you get it fixed soon

Is your mouse wireless?

I had quite a few different "things" on my old computer but they never affected my mouse. They affected my software by doing odd things, but I mainly noticed them while on the internet with odd behaviour..

Sorry this doesn't help much..maybe others will have more ideas..

Sorry the other post wasn't there when I started typing mine...

Yes this sounds familar. This has happened at work a few times. It seems that several of the folks got wireless mice. Somebody at one end of the building would use his mouse and the gal at the other end of the building would see her cursor flying everywhere.

It also happended to a friend who lived in an apartment. She had her computer against a wall shared with the next apartment. The girl in the next apartment had her computer against the same wall. Guess they were just plain lucky.

Leeandra, if it is the mouse, usually you can change the "channel" and maybe that will help.

Smile Virus Scan

If you want to try another virus scan go to www.housecall.trendmicro.com you can do an online virus scan. I found a virus and spyware (you can do a 2 in 1 scan) that was not picked up by my regular virus and spyware programs. I run a housecall scan once a week now. Hope this helps

DH & I used to both have wireless mice. He would be upstairs on his computer and me downstairs at the time- and his affected mine- drove me nuts until we figured it out!
Needless to say, I'm now wired!

Btw- we did try switching channels, but it didn't work for us.

Isn't that frustrating! my husband and I each have a computer with wireless mice in the same office at home...when we're both at the computer I have to hold the "transmitter" in my lap and then it works fine. I guess it's in closer proximity that way. His mouse must be stronger than mine because it's always mine that's affected!

Leeandra...I hope this is the cause of your problems since this thread has turned into a conversation about wireless mice! Whatever the problem, I hope it's fixed for you soon!
