Completely Digital Scrapbooking

I new to the site but ive been doing digital scrapbooking for a while, however a little different then most probably. I rarely print what i make digitally. I share all my scrapbooks on whats called VCD form, it can be played on most modern DVD players and takes up a lot less room then albums, in the space of one traditional photo album i can have upwards of 100 digital albums. I was wondering if anyone else here does completely digital photo albums, of if you find it better to always print out your work???

I'm curious... what software do you use to create your DVD albums?

What is the VCD form? Is it just DVD burned with your computer. I would be interested in doing something like that as I have a large screen tv that makes all the pictures I pull up look gorgeous. It would be fun to have a "screening" of my digital scrapbooks on the tv.

I use Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer Deluxe, it has options to save as PDF files which can be used to burn on to discs playable in most DVD players, and also good for sharing books online with lots of people, and good for if you having your book professionally printed, which i have done before as well.

The best way to describe how a VCD is used is what the back of the case says " VCD discs created using Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer Deluxe can be played on most popular DVD players thats support VCD format, CD-R, and CD-R/W discs."

Its kind of like a slide show for your pages..i found it really nice sharing with grandma and grandpa because they were in utter awe of how you can get pictures on the TV...heehee

PSE 3 also offers the ability to make VCD's. It's very quick and easy to do. Funny... I've used this feature for sharing photos but never even thought of it for my scrapbook pages! Duh! *Ü* Great idea. I also keep my scrapbook pages in digital form instead of printing them - just sharing them via e-mail and backing them up onto DVD's or CD's.

Easy to use program is Photo Dex, but it must be bought to remove the banner.!
Very easy to use, from download program to creating VCD was about 1/2 hours creating and placing CD into DVD player and that was figuring out the photo deluxe gold program besides!!
I really like this because this also is how I intend to share my LO's with family!!

Depending on your DVD player, you may not even need any software. Our DVD player will play jpg images on a CD into a slideshow all by itself. We tested, and since it was so cool, we bought my parents the same DVD player for Christmas. Since I had just finished digitizing about 2000 slides my dad had taken over the years, they ended up getting about 4 CD's to go with the DVD player so that my dad can just watch on his tv as a slide show.

Another thing to keep in mind with TV's and jpg images that are a scrapbook LO is that a TV displays images in a 4:3 ratio. In order to get a square or vertical image to display it will shrink the image to what fits, and you may again lose out on what you actually see on the TV.

Some DVD players will play VCD - which is video on a CD, however others will not. You would want to check out your DVD or be prepared to replace it before determining that VCD would be a good format.

Video on DVD is a totally different format and usually requires a specific piece of software that is capable of providing the needed compression without sacrificing quality.

Hope some of this helps.

I rarely print either, though I'm working on reszizing for a 4x6 album for my kids to tote around.

Haven't made any DVD/VCDs of the layouts yet. Still futilely searching for more time! We'll probably use the same software we use to Edit our Home Movies. I think I'll make my husband do it, LOL!

Welcome
