Okay, I just found this site today.

I am a traditional scrapbooker and am intrigued by being able to do it digitally. But I see that many of the background pages are 12 by 12. I'd love to be able to stay with my 12 by 12 but have no clue how you would print these out. I'm assuming that if I want to go digital, I have to go to 8.5 by 11??? Or is there a special printer that you buy to print 12 by 12???

Also, after I make a design, should I be printing it out on special paper or with special ink or anything like that?

you do them in nearly any size you would like - since I print at home and it's "standard" size I actually do mine in 8x8 and there are many nice album choices out there now for these sized pages

Also, I am using Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9. When I open a background page, I see it's 12 by 12. I want to resize it to 8.5 by 11. This may be stupid but I have no idea how to do this. If i crop, it asks me to choose pixels... ???

HELP????

We cross posted...

Oh, 8 by 8...

I never even considered.

What are typical options for sizes out there to be able to buy albums for???

I still am lost though... Do I open up a 12 by 12 background, design it just as it is, then somehow print it 8 by 8??? I'm not sure how to do that...

You can buy an album in 12x12, 10x10, 8x8, 6x6 etc. Lots of choices. There are several options for Wide-Carriage printers that do up to 12x17 paper. You can also do pro printing at 12x12 or 11x11 (much more reasoanable) then mount the 11x11 on 12x12 cardstock and put in your book. There are also hardbound albums that do 12x12 for special things like weddings, baby's first year, etc. GORGEOUS! And not much more than printing the pages all separately.

Go to your computer store and ask to see all the printers that do wide format. Especially if your exisiting printer is old, upgrade to a big one! But pro printing is cheaper for most things except 12x12 (but you still need the big printer to do 10x10 and 11x11 at home)

Have fun, hth!

I'm making all of my pages at 12x12 and I plan on resizing them to 8x8 for printing. I'm trying to make sure that everything I put on and all of my journaling is big enough that it will show up at 8x8 but not so big that if I somehow manage to get them printed at 12x12 they won't look strange.

I started in 8.5x11 and I realized that I really like the look of a square page better. For me it is just easier to work with.

Epson just came out with the r1800 printer, which is a large carriage format version of the r800 printer. It can go to 13 x 19 and also do DVD/CD's. Epson is the only company that has a specific 12 x 12 scrapbook paper (which is compatible with the r1800 printer). I have been waiting 3 years for this printer to come out (the 1280 is pretty old, and the 2200 - while terrific for matte printing and scrapbooks - does a so-so job on traditional gloss photos). Go to www.epson.com to look at it.

I have the Epson Photo 2200 (not cheap) $700 but love its ability to print out 12X12 layouts and their inks are rated up to 100 or so years depending how they are stored and if you use their paper. Just love it.
