Question totally brand new, software question?

Hello!
I am excited to be here. This is a new endeavor for me and I am looking forward to it.

For my birthday (next week ) I have the choice in receiving either
*PSE 3 OR
*MS DIS (Digital Image Suite) 9

A couple of questions:

Which would be a better software package to use for digital scrapbooking (I will want to both print as well as save on cd)?

Which will be easier to use?

Which supports more addins or plugins?

Thanks for any insight and help you may have!!

Kittie

Oh....AND WELCOME!!! Waves..

LOL go with PSP9... Easy to learn and the price is sssooo cheap for everything you get. PSP is a very powerful program if you use it to it's full capabilities!!
There are tons of addins, pulg ins, scripts, brushes, tubes, patterns, effects and everything else you could ever want for scrappin'!!

Are you going to be making your elements yourself? Or is your main goal to create LO's?

Hope this made your choice easier!!! LOL Sorry just a PSP user at heart!!

I am using Digital Image Pro 10. I love it. It is VERY easy to use. I am also currently learning to use Photoshop7. It's a bit frustrating because it's quite different from DIP10 and it takes me for ever to figure things out and get my LO done. However, I hope that I will become more proficient with this program soon. The reason why I want to learn PhotoShop is because there are so many more add-ons and plug-ins available and because I want to designing my own elements.

In a nutshell:
If you just want to get your layouts done with pre-designed elements and if you don't want to alter your pictures with extremely fancy effects, go with DIP. (DIP 10 still allows you to enhance your pictures and apply many different effects and filters.)
If you want to do your layouts from scratch, meaning designing your own elements and if you want to apply extremely fancy effects to your pictures and LO, go with PhotoShop. This option is also advisable if you think you might want to do these things some day in the future (like me.)

hi i still hop2 you get something nice for your birthday

must agree with the other ladeis that either photo shop or paintshop pro are good programs to create your layouts from scratch.

im a total psp addict, but recently found that trying to edit a 300 dpi layout bigger then 8x8 inch is frustrating. paintshop pro takes a while to render and takes up a lot of pc resource

i find myself switching between both PS and PSP(9) now so i would advice either of them

Well...I have to put in a plug for Photoshop Elements!
I use PSE3 and I love it! I have never used DI, but I have heard it is easier to learn. PSE probably has more of a learning curve to it.
However, it is almost as powerful as Photoshop. There is tons of information for Photoshop here and all over the web. And 90% of that info can be used for PSE as well. PSE uses all of the PS brushes, custom shapes, layer styles, but costs a fraction of PS.
That's my 2 cents worth!
(you do realize we're all going to have a different opinion )

Another PSE user here

I'd recommend PSE even though it's a little harder to use. I started with DIP and it didn't take me long to realize it couldn't do everything I wanted. PSE was a challenge but I'm glad I stuck with it. I got a lot of help here and checked out a few online tutorials. Also, there are lots of plugins, brushes, styles available (a lot of them free).

So if you're keeping a tally, put me down for PSE.

Hi,

I have PSE 2, Photo Impact and PSP 8.1, which I hated (it had every bug invented and kept crashing on my pc) and now PSP 9 which I love.

PI came bundled with my new computer and I wouldn't have a clue where to start, so I can't advise on that.

PSE run well on my other computer whilst PSP 8 didn't.

I upgraded to PSP 9 shortly before buying a new faster computer and it run much better on our older one than V8 did.

PSP can be slow if your computer doesn't have loads of memory and a fast processor - that said I'm still a fan.

In PSP you can customize your effects more than in PSE - BUT PSE brushes are better than PSP in my opinion.

There are so many plug ins which work with both PSE & PSP that I would go with one of them - in the beginning you probably won't use these a lot but as you become more advanced you will.

You can download trials of both of these programmes for free in the meantime if you fancy trying them out before taking the plunge!

HTH

Jules
