Help. Recoloring paint strokes in PSP9

I have been able to successfully recolor paint strokes in the past, but for some reason it is just not happening for me now! Can someone please tell me how to properly recolor paint strokes in PSP?

Thank you!!

Without knowing exactly how or what you are doing I am only guessing that you are painting the original strokes with either solid white or black...?

Try painting with a actual color and then recolor that color and see if that works for you.

My problem is that when I use the magic wand it seem to only be selecting the very outside edge of the paint stroke...I have tried playing around with the settings but I am not getting any closer. Then when I try to fill it with a color it just makes the entire paint stroke a solid color, so that you can't see the actual brush stroke at all.

The magic wand's settings can be a little trick and they vary for every different image so that is too hard to explain!

Have you tried to lock the layers transparency (padlock) and then use the bucket fill tool on the paint stroke? Doing this will only allow any pixel that holds a RGB value to accept a new color and will not affect your transparent pixels.

Instead of bucket filling with color, I use the hue/saturation/lightness adjustment. Choose colorize and then pick your color and saturation. I find it keeps the depths of colors better.
