How do you add colors on a black/white original image?

Hello! I have noticed that when opening an image that is in black and white the palette will sometimes not let you do for example(paint bucket-fill) in colors. How can you add colors to a black and white original image instead of only being able to work in those shades? Any help would be very greatly appreciated! I just got X2 so I am not the best at using it just yet.

If you are not seeing colors in your palette (ie: all the color swatches are black and white), then the image you are opening is set to greyscale... you will need to convert it to RGB by using the Image Convert dropdowns in the menus... I don't have the exact path to it since I do not use PSP any longer.. but if you look around the menus, you will see it.

Image>Increase Color Depth>RGB 8 bits channel, then you can use all the colorizing tools available.
By using some of the effects such as colorize, these will automatically turn the image to RGB 8 bits channel by default if it is selected in the Auto preferences
