Question Question about PSP from a newbie

Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am VERY new to digital scrapbooking and to SBB.
I downloaded PSP 2 days ago and have been able to figure a few things out, but I have a really stupid question.
Whenever I open PSP, it moves so slow! To the point that even while adding text, it takes about 30 seconds to backspace!
Is this a memory thing on my computer, or could it be a problem with the program?
I am very frustrated!!
Thanks so much for any advise you can offer.

Oh, I also wanted to add that this doesn't happen every time I open it, but I can't find a rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes it starts moving slow the second I open it, other times it starts when I have been using it for a while.

welcome... we'll need to know a bit more about your system before making any judgement.. also, which version of PSP did you download? Are you running Vista? How much memory do you have?

Although PSP (imo) is a bit top heavy on resource usage in any version past 9, it still runs ok on a moderate PC so perhaps you have something set incorrectly or had something else running in the background (virus scanner on) while working?

Thanks so much for responding (I have been peeking back here in between waiting for my text to backspace!)

I downloaded PSP X2.
I hate to show how dumb I am to all this, I have a lot to learn if I want to keep going with this.
But, what is Vista? And how do I check my memory? (sorry, told you I was dumb )

The virus scanner may very well be on--I will attempt to check it LOL!

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, Like Pesto said PSP will act differently depending on your Computers specifications, meaning either how old is it or how big of HD, how much ram and such.

But above all that let me talk about your text issue:
Are you making Vector Text? (this will show up in your top tool bar, your choices are Vector, selection and floating) If you are doing vector text and you have A LOT of text, say a good long paragraph or two. It will take PSP a long time to respond because as you change what is in the text box, PSP also is trying to refresh what it looks like on your working image.
I got PSP9 to crash on me by doing awhole 12x12 page of vector text at once and then decided I needed to make a few changes to the working. PSP hated me at that moment in time!

I honestly feel that if PSP is not working correctly it is usually 99% of the time the computer it is on, user error, or incorrect installation.

To find out how big your computer is, Right click on My Computer Icon and choose Properties. At the bottom of that window will be your computers size info.

Vista is the newest operating system for Windows computers, which operating system are you running? Win98, XP...?
Hope that helps!

OK, total dumb moment--I did know what Vista was, sorry LOL
I have Windows XP.

Haley--It was a big text! The birth story of my son I bet that was the problem. I haven't noticed it as much when not doing text. Is there something else I should be using other than Vector (I don't really know the difference between them all yet).

Let me check the memory on it real quick...
OK, it says 2.17 GHz and 448 MB of RAM
is that where I am supposed to look?

Thanks so much for your help!

448 MB of ram is almost guaranteed to be your problem... sounds like you must be on a laptop to have that little RAM.. you are going to want to look into getting that up to at least 1 GB preferably 2GB.

Thanks for answering Pesto
I am on an old computer, but not a laptop. Probably not lookiong at getting a new one in the near future, so that stinks.
Should I just switch to a different program, or would it be the same way?
