I will let Pesto anser the more tech questions!

yeah that much text is a killer since
PSP is a imaging program and not a text editor.

floaating text: makes text the colors selected in the materials palette and it will float on your layer until you click your mouse, it will not be on a layer of it's own.

Selection text is marching ants around what would be your words, it is not filled with any color and unless you do fill them, these marching ants will disappear when you click your mouse and you will be left with nothing.

Vector text is usually the best for every situation, it creastes a new text layer for you all the time, since it is vector you can resize your words and they will not become pixelated. I use vector text 99% of the time.

sorry for typos on my dd laptop!

Yeah... you'll have a problem with almost all modern paint programs (heck.. even regular software programs) with that little RAM around. Once XP gets loaded and all your other "stuff", you probably only have around 200MB of memory left available. The minimum recommendations for MOST software is always 256MB.. which is a huge stretch to begin with.. My advice.. start saving some pennies and get yourself a memory upgrade. Upgrading a PC is childs play and you can typically get a 1GB upgrade for around $50 these days... so it is well worth it!
