Help with sizing ???

Hi, Not exactly sure how to explain what I want to do but...

I want to glue cutout photos to a coin that I have that is about the size of a half dollar. How do I know what size to print the photos so that they either are the exact size or slightly larger than the coin?

not digital in nature.. but we are here to help so here we go..

measure the radius or diameter of the coin... then, use the transform tool to resize the photo so it is close to the size of the diameter.. then, use a circle selection and crop it down to the actual coin size in a circle... done!

please forgive me if I'm not understanding??
Not sure if I was clear in explaining that I have already placed the photos on the coin in Paint Shop. I've also placed all the photo/coins on one sheet. Now I need to print them need to and cut them out so I can stick them on to the actual plastic coin. That is where I don't know what size to make the print. Also, maybe I cannot have them all on one sheet?

like do I make it a 5x7 an 8x10 etc?

Ok this is going to be a long and confusing reply! Sorry

I use PSPX How I have determined in the past what I see on my montior is what I get when I print is this, I always work with my rulers turned on and set to inches:

I look at my(Display Properties/Settings and then my Advanced button) to see my Screen Resolution and the settings I have selected.
1280x1024 Pixels @ 96DPI
My monitor is a 19" CRT

Now since everything I create is at 300ppi resolution when I start a image. I know that when I want to see what it will look like as in physical size when printed onto a 8.5x11 piece of paper (this could be any size, but we are all familiar with this standard size)

Now if I use my Zoom controls and zoom to 32% to 33% this is the images correct print size (very close within 1-3 pixels).

If I zoom to 100% this gives me how clear it will look when printed. This is NOT the PRINT SIZE your items will be!

I looked at your example from the link and I look at the properties, if this is your full size image it is only 512 x 417 pixels big.
To get a decent print you need to create your images at 200ppi at least.

To get better print quality you should use 300ppi to start with. This number (resolution) determines the resolution of your print image quality.

512x417 @ 72ppi (default for PSP) is 7.111x5.792 Inches big
(while you have your approximate paper size big enough your print quality is going to be very very poor.)
512x417 @ 200ppi is 2.560x2.085 Inches big
(Now the paper size is not big enough for your needs but your images will print much much better)
512x417 @ 300ppi is 1.707x1.390 Inches big
(Paper size is way too little but you finally have print quaility images)

So if you want to print these out at the correct size on a 5x7 @ 300ppi you need these settings to start with when you create your image.
2100x1500 Pixels = 7.000x5.000 Inches, you can choose these number when you create a "New Image" in PSP.

And yes you can print these out all on one image and then cut apart later.

Now my Zoom of 33% isn't going to work for you unless your montior settings are exactly like mine. So I found the link to the article that talks about how to find the correct % zoom for your monitors settings and then do the math yourself. If it helped me it will surely make sense to you!

http://www.digitalmastery.com/downlo...s/psuser51.pdf

By using this method I can hold any physically printed item I have created and printed out, up to my monitor screen and they are within pixels of being the exact same size of each other.

Let us know if this helps you out!

going to take my time and go through your wonderfull, detailed reply. Thank you! The actual image is 1390x1134. It just worked out that way because rather than resize each and every coin, I just kept adding borders to the white background so all would fit. Pretty amateurish, huh?? Because this had to be done and sent to Sam's for printing, we are having a 4x6 and a 5x7 made. We'll pick the prints up tomorrow and find out if we got lucky!
I will forever save your instructions and post back tomorrow.
Thank you again Haley, my grand daughter's name too, although spelled "Haleigh"

John

hmm! Seems there is a formula to printing with Sam's too!
The top row of the coins were cut off just enough to give them a squared off look. I remember when we used to belong to Club Photo, they did have a formula so that no borders would be cut off. hmm, now where did I put that?!
We're going to go with them anyway. It's just something for my wife's office. I would not have accepted them, but my wife is ALOT less critical them me.

I was reading about your top row being cut off. I'm printing some 5 x 7 at Walgreens and I'm got the left tilted tip of a frame cut off...and a couple of circles that are close to the top now. I'm thinking they might have cut off about an 1/8 or maybe 1/16 of an inch...I have to get a ruler out....on my 5 X 7 invitation.

Noticed you said that Club Photo had a formula so no borders were cut off...but it doesn't appear that Walgreens does. DO you still have your tip sheet? Or anyone have any tips on how they handle? I need 30 copies of an inviation...but only printed one to see how it would turn out. I was worried about them possibly taking a poodles back leg off, but that stayed intact. It's just the right side and the top that are a little off. I bumped into this awhile back with another project. So I adjused my LO. Then of course when you look at it on screen, it looks weird because you have more dead space then you want. This invite is for my niece and has a lot of dots and stuff on it so it's not as easy.

I wish 5 x 7 meant 5 x 7 to Walgreens. Any and all tips appreciated.

I called Walgreens and found out their printer was a Fuji Frontier 330. Found a website that says for a 5 x 7 you need to increase your canvas to 1524 x 2138 pixels. Might give that a try.....
