PSP Pro Photo X2 problem

I have just installed PSP Pro Photo X2 and find that when I place a CD in the drive, or select a drive icon in My Computer, the software launches instead of the CD being read or the drive contents being available.
I have searched without success for a solution to this quirky behaviour and ended up having to uninstall the software.
Your advice on a resolution of the problem would be greatly appreciated!

I have PSPX2 and don't use it much at all, and never for photo organization. The problem with this newest version is that it has "Photo" in the title which distracts from it being an image graphics program for which it was intend to be and built around. I would suggest that you visit the Corel Users newsgroups and ask in the PSPX2 area for help and solutions.

I just looked to get you a link to the Community newsgroups link from the corel site and I can't seem to find it anymore. the best I can give you is the info in my Outlook Express newsreader:
cnews.corel.com is the main account and corel.PaintShopProPhotoX2 is the newsgroup.
I also know that there are yahoo groups and such where the same PSP users read and answer questions as they do the in the Corel Newsgroups....hth's a little

I know that there are settings that you can tell PSP to either do or not do when you are installing it. I know that Suz has a lot of tips and trick for installing PSPX2 and making it behave!

PSP Pro Photo X2 problem

Thank you for the wonderfully fast and comprehensive reply.
It certainly seems as if the photo organiser function has taken over, and even if I kill the Media Cataloger process, the software wants to go hunting for images in any drive that I attempt to open.
I was unable to come up with an answer in the newsgroup, but will follow your suggestions and post back if I can solve the problem.
Adobe Elements has a photo organiser function but it comes into play obediently when asked!

You're welcome and I am sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I know that I disabled where X2 would look for photo's on my computer at start up but don't remember where I read how to do it. But it was either on the newsgroup or Suz's site.

It must of worked because my X2 just opens and acts like a nice little program everytime without trying to catalog and add to the database all of my photo's.

PSP Photo X2 problem solved

I am in your debt! The simple recommendation on Suz's site to uncheck the 5 default file associations using the advanced tab during installation has resolved the problem.
The program now sits back and allows me to access drive and CD content.
I am curious as to whether this is a common issue, or something quirky about my set-up.
Sincere thanks for bringing several days of hair-tearing to an end.

No it's just the software bundled with X2 - they thought we would appreciate a photo downloading system. I believe I read Suz's site and during installation managed to keep clear of the photo downloader

That photo downloader!

Corel need to inform users how to tame the photo downloader. There is nothing in the manual or on the Corel website I could find to help us to steer clear of this intrusive function.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements, its photo downloader can be turned off, and it certainly doesn't take over the computer.
But from what I have read about PSP Photo X2 it has been worth the time and effort to get to this point where the software and I can work together.
I can't thank you and Haley64 enough!

Well that's nice but I hardly did anything but jump in when you were all sorted out

I hope you enjoy using X2 - I use it almost exclusively now, after a long time of swearing I wouldn't move from PSP 9. I do miss the drag and drop into images feature, and when writing tutorials I used to have two sessions of PSP open, one to work in and one for the screenshots. X2 won't do that, so I keep 9 on hand for that purpose - oh, and for some reason X2 will save psd files but not layered, which 9 will do.

Apart from those minor niggles I quite like it
