help with PSPXI

My husband bought me a new laptop for Christmas which has PSPXI I have been using DIP9 for years but I cannot get a page started with PSP. I cannot seem to open a page and transport any download or photo to start the layers to build a page. I am probablly missing some thing stupid but I am getting frustrated so would appreciate some help.
Thanks so much.

Hi Debby,

I don't have PSPXI on my computer but I think the ability to drag a photo to your open image from the brower and have it create a new layer was destroyed by corel.

Instead you have to do it this way now. Open your new 12x12 blank image and a photo you wish to use. Then you can either copy and paste as new layer to your blank image.

OR you can have both images open in your workspace and with the photo image as the active image click on the thumbnail in the layers palette and while holding your left mouse button down drag it over to your blank image, when you see your cursor turn into a + sign you can release your mouse button, this will create a new layer of the photo on your blank image.

let us know how it is going for you!

I have been trying that..I copy paste then once I get the image over the white space I delete the original image and loose the whole thing. I also loose the layers when I have a photo open in the workspace. Do I need to save as a raster or vecter to be able to keep several layers open in the layers palette?

After much frustration I think I have it thanks to Haley64. I find that I have to have all the image boxes on the workspace just minimized then I am able to drag to the open work space. There is probablly a better way bt at least I can get some pages started, as I use the program more I will probablly understand better.
Thanks so much for the clue that put me over the edge so I can get scrapping again.
This place is the best!!!!!!!!

Glad that you got it to work! Check out the tutorial section here at SBB for PSP. For the most part all the steps will be the same for all versions with a few little exceptions like this thrown in just for good measure.
If you ever run into a problem again just ask us here and someone will try to help you.

Another thing to think about is to get all the upgrades for PSPXI, You can find these on the corel site or right in the PSP workspace in the Help Menu, there should be a check for updates option. But you might have to do a little reading about them as I don't which ones replaced which ones..I know this sounds confusing but corel gave out patches to correct their patches for this version of PSP.
