PSP X2

I see that X2 has come out. Has anyone tried it, and do you think it is worth the upgrade? I am currently using X.

I have been getting very interested in HDR and I see that X2 has photo merging for HDR. But I don't think is does tone maping.

HDR isn't a big thing to me because I use a stand alone program for HDR called Dynamic Photo HDR, and it really works slick.

I also have PSCS3 which I'm trying to learn, but I keep coming back to PSP. It just seems that to get to the end result, it is more complicated in PS than in PSP.

I have the trial right now, and I'm not sure yet if I want to upgrade from X. X2 is definately pretty, has such a great interface now, though I don't like the way the browser is set up. I could probably get over that though! I can't get my VP to work in it though, so I'm hesitating since I use VP on just about all my photos.

Tracey has upgraded though. I'm sure she will chime in

VP is Virtual Photographer which is a plug-in that you can use in PSP!
You still haven't gotten that to work yet Kelly!! LOL box up your puter and send it to me! ROFL

I haven't played overly much in PSPX2 because of the fact alone that I am not going to start saving extra files so that previous versions can understand them. (ex: style layers) I am just not willing to risk this issue at the moment or spend the time on learning a good method of saving.

Aside from that I do not and have never used any of the RAW, HRD or anything camera related inside of PSP. No need as I am not that good of a photographer and I do not have a camera that shoots RAW either!

I do like it for what I have used it for and I got it for a little over $20.00 for the upgrade so for me it is well worth it just to have it!
It doesn't sound near as unstable as PSPXI did.

If you are serious about getting it to correct and modify your HRD photo's I would seriously suggest that you get into the Corel PSPX2 newsgroup and ask the people who use all aspects of it. They also have a photography group which I know the people in there can really help answer your questions, I think that this time around quite a few regular posters upgraded to this version or at least gave it a good try-out!
That's about all I know!

Hi... if you have CS3.. I would love you to do something drastic.... are you ready.....? Uninstall PSP.

Just use CS3 for the next few weeks.. once you do learn it, you'll never look back. Don't get me wrong.. PSP was (is) a great product - but CS3 is slick/amazing whatever you want to call it and once you get over the shock of trying to figure it out, you'll love it.

The big hurdle is the cost of buying it and you've already done that... take my challenge.. and let me know if you need any help/advice... Good Luck!

BTW: I tried X2 the day it came out and posted my impressions here - although I like the new color of the UI, I crashed 3 times in the first 10 minutes of using it. I'm sure it has been patched since I tried it but I didn't like little things like how the layers panel was set out. but that's just my impression.. I'm sure it is a fine upgrade for those that use PSP.

Hi Haley... yes - I felt the same way when I first switched over and did go back and forth for a bit.. but then, I just uninstalled and forced myself to use CS3.

I actually did go use PSP a few weeks ago to work on a PSP image that I needed to modify... I have a version of PSP9 that runs off a USB drive and loaded that baby up... wow - was I lost! It felt like the first time I used PS.. but it came back to me.. but then I just wanted to keep using the tools in PS.

I guess I just needed someone to give me a little push. You are correct in your advice.

I have been doing the tutorials in PSCS3 on Lynda.com for several weeks and am starting to understand a lot more.

I did the CS2 tutorial on this web site and am starting to get the hang of it.

PS is such a powerful program, and now that I'm starting to take pictures in RAW and starting to get interested in HDR, I can see that learning PS is the way to go.

Since I purchased an Olympus E510, I have been getting more interested in the photographic side than the scrapping side.

Lately, I haven't done any scrapping pages for myself, but I have done some for others for pay. This past summer, I have sold over $300 of prints that I took. That's not much, but I'm not actively trying to sell anything, and these were just by word of mouth.

This past weekend, I went to a fall arts festival. There was a lady there that had a little booth with framed prints that she took with her point and shoot camera. She printed them on her home printer.
She had some really beautiful prints of flowers, birds and scenery.
Most were 5 x 7 and some 8 x 10, and the average price was around $45.00 each.
I asked her how things were going and she said there are a lot of lookers but not many buyers.
I think the problem is that with the popularity of digital cameras and the quality of the new cameras coming out, that just about anyone can get great photos of flowers, animals, and scenery now.
I have found that if I take pictures of local places, buildings, events, and local scenery, that if people have some kind of a connection to the photo, they are more inclined to purchase it.

Boy, ramble, ramble, ramble, I sure strayed from the subject.
Anyway, I am going to take your suggestion, and jump into PS with both feet.

Duane
