Yes - the digital photography market has made life really difficult for the Pro photographer - everyone has access to good cameras now (even some P&S cameras rival the top SLR film cameras now)... so everyone can take decent photos - and they figure why hire a pro.

I get my business mainly via word of mouth and through selective advertising. I make my money via portrait/school photography and the occasional event. It is unfortunate that many pros feel threatened by all the competition.. but I can understand their "pain" because it is cutting right into their profit.
