Unhappy Paint Shop Pro Preferences, Units

I don't understand the Paint Shop Pro general preferences, Units, Defalt Resolution, set up.

I was told in my online PSP class to set it at 78.780 pixels per cm, but I have no clue why nor what this means, and the only answer I can extract from the course leaders is a vague statement that Corel said to set it that way.

I cannot find where Corel said to set it that way, nor where Corel or anyone else says a word about it. I can't find it in Help, in the user manual, nor through Google.

What does that set of numbers mean, and how do I really decide what setting to give it?

Thanks!

Yours,
Dora Smith

That particular setting in PSP will give this resolution to any image that doesn't have a resolution setting that you open. I know that doesn't make sense, it doesn't to me either but I do know at times there are iamges or the way we copy and paste these images into PSP that allows PSP to give them this set resolution.
For web site designs you might want to set it to 72dpi as that is what web images seem to like.
Most montiors are set to a standard 96dpi now days and not 72 like they used to be.
I have my resolution in PSP set to 300ppi because that way I just never goof up for designing scrapbooking items! hth's a little

78.780 pixels per cm is equivelent to 72 pixels per inch - Im guessing you may be Aussie (or somewhere where metric is used) and so they are telling you to use metric measurements.
On top of that the preferences would be for the monitor display settings - really there is no hard and fast rule for it - leaving the rendering at 72 or 96 means it requires less processing power which can be a good thing and really should be adequate.

Oops I missed that "cm" part!
I don't think that this part of PSP affects any of the hourly or daily processing power of our computer.
This is what it says in my preferences "The default resolution will be applied to any image or file without a resolution value."
Because for the most part every image we open and use already has a resolution value.
I remember thinking it used to have to do with something about our rulers on screen and how we could actually calculate our monitor resolution compared to that set in PSP and then we could tell just by adjusting our rulers to the actual size we see them in real life and would know that our on screen images are a inch big. Clear as mud!

Ok found this and didn't know this!
