Exclamation Transparent background

Hi!

When i make pictures that shall have transparent backgrounds and save the pictures in .gif, the background turns white... and when i do the same thing and saves it in .png, the background turns black..

Why does it do that? Is there any settings or so that i have to adjust?
Please help me.. cause it's sooo annoying that i can't make transparent backgrounds..

Regards

Camilla aka UltraGirl

For it to have a transparent background save as a png file. JPEGs and GIFs will always color the background.

Which version of PSP are you using? and if it is PSP7 or PSP8 you need to go get the updates from the corel web site for your version! Then you will have transparent areas!

hhmm well then you don't need those old updates! LOL

You didn't happen to have a black layer in your image did you? PSP will merge any layers and tell you it's going to be a .png but in the mean time it also added in your black canvas and didn't keep just your one layer that had transparency.

Did you change any of the default settings in your Preferences>File Format Preferences?
The top one should be checked.

Did you run the .png opitmizer when you saved your image? When you save as a .png there is a "Options" button which appears that allows you to save as interlaced or non interlaced and palette optimization. Then there is another button Run Optimizer which opens another dialog box and there are a whole bunch of things in there. But if you didn't save it through the optimizer way, I don't know why you are seeing a black background.

Those preferences should be set for correct .png saving to begin with if you hadn't touched them while saving this .png.

Have you tried to start again with a brand new image and save it as a .png and make sure that it only has one layer with a transparent (checkered light gray and white) background.
