Can someone help me...has to do with lines and shapes.

I dabble with fractals. I LOVE Paint Shop Pro, and tutorial after tutorial trying for the effect I wanted was for PS. I went ahead and downloaded a demo for PS to do a tutorial and see if I had any Ah HA moments. The design below is all Paint Shop Pro, except for the silver inlay. I did the silver effect in Paint Shop, but the line design is the only thing I did in PS. Is there anyway or a tutorial that shows how I can do something like this in Paint Shop? I'm not scared of Bezier Curves LOL. I can get a shape, but I have a devil of a time trying to rotate it from one end, vs. from a center point. The lines also appear to be jagged, but I did have the idea that I could do a 'shape' and then just select and delete the center to get the shape I want. But there again, lies my problem with rotation. PS has it where you click a key combination and it repeats the action...keep hitting the key combination, it repeats it for every time you hit it...i.e...that circle effect. I tried making a script to do this in Paint shop but ended up with a mess. I imagine that takes some practice. It turned out a mess because mainly due to trying to set a pivot point and keep it the same.

I hope you can make sense of that. I love Paint Shop and detest the thought of paying out the nose for PS for just wanting to do one thing lol. Any help, tips, advice, is more than welcomed. Thank you.

Hi, I am a little confused, which is easy to do! LOL

Do you want to know how to make the pointed lines around the circle?
Or the bubble effects on the circle?

For the line, make a preset shape with the star preset,(make sure that Anti-alias is checked) set it to have 25 points. Now copy this vector shape and paste as Vector Data or Control-G in PSPX.
You can grab the handle at either the start point of the first point or you can grab the twist/rotate/skew that starts from the center of the vector star. Now you can manipulate both layers in the vector groups and make this star shape almost identical to what you are showing in you post.
Then create a new raster layer above the vector layer and just place a circle of whatever means you have (tubes, brushes, whatever).
Now if you want to make that gradient type effect on your circle in the effects menu is something called Balls and Bubbles. Try that and play around with the settings until you come up with something close to what you have.
It also looks like they have added a white drop shadow underneath the circle area which is mainly visiable on the top left side of the circle.

Hi Haley

I used like 3 layers..one being a circle with gradient fill, then a 'highlight layer' for that top, and for the fractal, I poloarized it, making it a bubble shape, and then pasted into the circle selection and setting it's layer to soft light. The image was dark when I was playing with filters, so I did end up using a drop shadow, which was actually a duplicate layer heavily blurred.

My query was about the actual star pointy design, trying to find an easier way to do it. I used Eyecandy to chrome it (LOVE that filter lol) Looking through these forums, actually for about a couple of hours now, I found a link of a link of a link that lead to a terrific site describing Beziers in detail. I've lurked for awhile, and can't believe I missed it till now. LOL I'm still stumped with figuring out the rotation points, but I'm been playing with 'mirroring' tonight and have some promising results. It's not hard in PS, and they have their 'action', but I'm much rather figure it out in PSP. Going to try your tip with the stars I used a tutorial with stars before, but it wasn't near as simple as you just described it LOL Thank you!

Hm I remember seeing a script for PSP for the rotation somewhere in my travels.
Try here - not sure if it was it but if not there is a link to the yahoo scripting newsgroup and they might be able to help you find one
