Question Actions...some help with

Can someone help me with actions... what are they I see it mentioned a lot and I honest don't know what they are and what they do. I have seen some items in SBB store that are PSP actions but I am scared to purchase since I have no clue what to do with them

Thanks.

Actions are like scripts, you press a button and it does the work for you. Things like turning shapes or alphas into glass, tearing them, stitching, embroidering, etc. I like to use them on my title alphas. Atomic Cupcake's website has a lot of actions for Photo Shop. They don't work with PSP (if that is what you are using); however, you can see what actions can do.

An action is basically a series of instructions that you can save in Photoshop so they will run automatically. As a photographer, I use them a lot to resize images -- so I will save the series of steps that I always need to do (e.g., open the photo, change the image size, save it in a certain place) as an action. Then I just run the action on a whole bunch of files.

A lot of people use actions to automatically run the steps needed to convert a photo from color to black and white. There are tons of other actions that will give all sorts of effects -- chalked edges, metallic effects etc -- but they are all really the same thing, a series of steps saved in Photoshop. They are so wonderful because they are tremendous time savers.

Can I interrupt this thread...if you read PSP Actions, that is totally the wrong term used by a designer and I wish that they would have never started this confusion by using the wrong word!!
PSP uses SCRIPTS and only SCRIPTS!

Scripts in PSP contain a certain set of actions that are recorded and preformed automatically in PSP. They can be used for the hardest of techniques or used on the simpliest thing as to create a new image of a certain size or colorize a photo.

There are hundreds of scripts available for PSP that do things almost identical to what Adobe actions do.
I have a bunch of links in the resource tab for getting PSP scripts!
Before you buy scripts the best thing to do would be to download a few of the free ones and play with them until you get comfortable with how scripts work. Certain scripts require you to have a image open, some don't and create the image for you. Some require vector shape, text, selection, two layers, single background layer AND some don't. So my advice is to play with the free ones first before purchasing any PSP script. )

LOL I know when I just look at New Forum Posts Today it does get confusing about the program being used, and don't think to look and see which forum it is in. But I know most of the PSP usernames! LOL

Ann, if you have any other questions please ask, I was about to run out the door when I typed my reply to your first post.

And not all PSP scripts work with all versions of PSP . So, folks, if you buy a script, make sure it is compatible with your version of PSP.
