Resizing Layout to Size Adequate to Post in Gallery

I asked in "general bytes" information on how to post layouts. It was recommended to use 500 x 500 pixel size to save on loading time. How do I do that? can I do that through "image resize".

I currently do 12 x 12 which are 3600 x 3600 pixels and I need to get that down!
Thanks

I use PSE3, but that is how I do it. Just reduce the pixel size down. Hopefully someone who uses your program will respond soon. Good luck!!

I use PSE 5.0 and change the size of my layouts when I "Save for Web." This is an option in the file menu. What program do you use?

Yes first make a duplicate of your Layout so you don't oversave your original one you will want to keep to print for yourself.
Then Image > Resize and type in 500x500 pixels, I personally do not change the 300ppi to 72ppi as all that does is affect the size of which would be a print size.

Then when you choose to save it as a .jpg you will notice that there is an "Options" button to click on the save dialog window, click that and the JPEG Compression window will open. I usually turn the Compression Factor to around 8-10 then click Run Optimizer and adjust the "Set Compression value to" A number that displays the compressed file size to something around 120,000 bytes. This number is just up to the right of the Download Times tab on that dialog box. It will update the compression size number for you as the raise or lower the compression value.
Then click OK and you are done and can upload to a gallery

Thanks Shelleyrae! I need to re-write a tutorial for square LO's!
I have already had one member confused by the rectangle dimensions of that one! Lord why did I ever think that 8x11 was fun! hehehehe

I actually save mine to be just under 100 KB because a few galleries have smaller minimums and it was frustrating to not be able to upload them.
