did you save the file as a PNG or GIF? If you save as JPG.. it will convert the transparent background to a solid color......

To keep a transparent background you need to Export as a gif or png file.
Saving it sometimes doesn't work.
You also may need to change your preferences for PNG files. To do this go to File, Peferences, file format preferences, Click on the PNG Tab and make sure you check the load and save transparency to/from layer transparency.

Since you are putting it on the web you probably want to export as a gif file.
Go to file, Export, Gif Optimizer
You'll get a pop up box~ Make sure you check existing image or layer transparency then follow the steps to finish.
Hope this helps.

Just curious... why do you want a button to be transparent anyway? Why not just create the button in the size you want, in the color you want to display on the screen, add the bevel, etc, add the text and save?.. or do you want "buttons" that are just text?

If the button isn't exactly rectangular (i.e. rounded), then that would necessitate a transparent background, wouldn't it?

Mechelle is right: the Save As often doesn't give a transparent background (it's inconsistent).

Also, before using the File>Export make sure your background layer, if you are working on a colored/white one, is invisible. Just blink off the eye icon first, then export the graphic
