Paint Shop Photo Album Vs Digital Scraproom

Have any of you used the PSP album to sort your digi kits? I had started this months ago (I don't use it for pictures - I have the creative memories program for that and like it fine), then felt like I was spending so much time "tagging" and no time scrapping. I'm wondering what specifically the Scraproom software has, that the PSP album does not - that would make it worth the time (and money)? I'm a pretty organized person IRL, and it drives me crazy that there is not much organization to my digi-kits, but I also don't want to spend more time organizing than I do scrapping.

Thanks in advance for any useful tidbits!

You will either love the DS or hate it... personally, I found it quite basic and just simply not as good as the software I was currently using.. but, you may want to give it a try. Unfortunately, you need to buy it since there is no demo...

Funny how you can find something basic and not as good as other programs when you've never tried it.

Not really... software reviewers do it all the time when reporting on new products that either do not have a demo available (this case) or are reviewing software that hasn't been released yet (reviews are based on advanced technical feature lists).

In my case, I "reviewed" the software based on the info currently available... from the webpage, the screenshots and reading what others users say it does (feature set). Since I cannot demo it myself, I took all that and compared it to what I am using (which btw, does come with a fully functional 30 day demo).

In the end, what I'm doing does all that DS does and more so that's what I said above...

All true when you look at it differently?

I purchased the DS. I don't particularly care for it either! I found that I had to "label" with keywords every single thing!! I can't search by anything at all when it first goes into DS. With Picassa, I can put in an artist name and it will bring up all that artist graphics. I think it is a ton of work to have to "label" or keyword everything - even though it DOES allow you to do many pictures at a time. - so does Picassa! The DS DID however give me some wonderful ideas for setting up my Picassa.

Thanks Beth! That is the conclusion I think I have come to. Since I have accumulated quite a bit of stuff in the last year and not labeled any of it, I could spend countless hours labeling everything. And how much of it am I really going to use more than once or twice? I think I'm going to figure out a system for me that keeps track of those "essential items" that I would use over and over and just keep grouping the rest the way I have been.

I totally agree with this assessment too.. If you look at some of the non-scrapping catalog programs, they quickly do most of this process for you. Your photos can be "auto-cataloged" using a variety of EXIF or filename info.. this saves time. In addition, things like fonts, and elements can also be auto-cataloged just by using the files names.

I'm sure DS is great for some, especially those that ONLY scrapbook and don't care about cataloging their photos, etc..... for me, I'm more interested in catalgoing my photos, fonts and elements and find Idimager to work perfectly for this. My other program, Thumbsplus, has over 30,000 photos cataloged with specific keywords and ratings... if I want to find something that I took 2 years ago... I just type in the keyword and there it is.

This also allowed me to easily rebuild the catalog when I migrated to a new system. Try doing that with DS.. what if you buy a new computer next year and want to rebuild your collection of stuff on the new PC.. but your drive letter have changed and things just aren't in the same place.. with IDI.. its a one step process... not sure how DS handles it.. Perhaps KimLzzy can tell you?

Anyway.. I would look into some of these otehr products like picassa, Idimager, Thumbsplus..

I think the title of the program TELLS you that it was DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY for DIGITAL SCRAPPERS. It wasn't designed for cataloging photos so why continue comparing it to programs that are designed for photos? That's like comparing chalk and cheese. Really Pesto.............
