say i have a picture of a car obviously background/foreground will be roadside and trees, is the only way i can use the car by itself for a layout as an embellishment to use lasso tool and copy and paste as new image(this does not seem to give clean image, or do i do masks which i am not sure how to seperate the car.

I'd use a mask! Duplicate your picture so it's on it's own layer. Add the mask. While you are "clicked" on your mask,it's active, Using a black brush, go over everything that you don't want in your picture. The great thing with masks is that until you apply it, you aren't really touching your photo. You can use a white brush on your mask to fix any mistakes. You can use different brushes/sizes etc.with black hides, white shows. Good luck!

Which program are you using? If you are using PSP I can give you detailed directions, but I can only give you some general help on PS.

Hi,

What you are looking for is called removing a background, here is one

Also a quick search "removing backgrounds PSP" on google will bring up many other tutorials for this.
