Very Beginner with Questions

I'm very new at this whole digital scrapbooking thing so please bare with me if I ask questions that should seem very simple. I did go through the beginner lessons but had some difficulties because the links didn't work so I couldn't do all of the lessons.

I did download some alphabet elements that I thought I would try with. But they are all attached on one sheet. I hope you get what I'm saying. How would I go about just using one of the letters since they are all on one sheet.

Also, where do you guys get all the stuff you use. I found the place where you can download freebies off people's blogs. Is there stores online or something?

I've been looking through a lot of the galleries and saw some amazing stuff. Very impressed. Where do you get all the different fonts? I'd love to have some new stuff other than what comes with the PSP program.

I am using PSP9.

Thanks so much,
Angelia

I am also pretty new to this but here is my suggestion...
To use a letter that is on a page just use the crop tool to crop out the letter you want. Then copy it and paste as a new layer onto the page that you are creating.
If you just want to use different fonts you can download fonts from a free font website and once you load them onto your PC you should be able to use them in PSP.

I use PSPX, so not sure how different it might be from PSP9. I use the selection tool to highlight the letter then Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+L to layer it on your page.

A great site for free fonts is www.dafont.com Just download the ones you want (i usually download to my desktop to make is super easy) then unzip and stick in your Windows-Font folder. They should then show up in your PSP.

You can get freebies from all sorts of digital scrapbooking sites including here at SBB. There are also stores that you can buy kits, alphas, brushes, etc.

I'm sure Tracey, our resident PSP how to girl will chime in with even more for you. She is a master at PSP.

LOL Kelly, exactly as you said, use the selection tool to select the one alpha you want to use and then copy/paste into your Layout. You can then also use your RIGHT mouse button to move your marching ants to the next letter that you would like to copy/paste.

We have a wonderful store right here at SBB with wonderful kits and elements to buy, just look for the store link above on any page.
You can also obtain numerous freebie samples at the crop/chats if you look at the calender you can find the dates and times.
Yes we use very little of the actually items that come with PSP such as tubes and patterns as they are/were usually created at 72ppi and as such will not print out well at all, but they will look fine on your monitor.
The one thing I would suggest for a newcomer is to start now organizing your kits and freebies with designer names and to read the Terms of Use that they come with. Very, very soon you will be overcome with digital items that are so many you yourself will become lost in all of them. If you have Photo Album 5-6 you can organize through that or another free program Picasa 2 which you can google for download.
We also have a huge selection of tutorials here for PSP under the tutorial link, also found on any page here at SBB.
Also doing a search of the forums for Fonts will bring up tons of post on the subject, how to use them and where to get them!!
Have fun and please let us know of any other questions you might still have.

Thanks so much for the helpful advice. I'm really excited about this and I'm sure I'll have many more questions along the way.

You are so welcome!! Glad to have you here also!!

One thing I should mention and failed to do was the font folder issue, instead of downloading to you windows/system font folder. Create a new folder called My Fonts in your My Documents folder, it is possible that too many fonts will slow down your programs from loading.
Then if you google "The Font Thing" (free download program) which allows you to install and easily uninstall unused fonts from your computer is a wonderful way of keeping control of your fonts also.
There sure seems like a lot to learn in doing digital scrapbooking but these are all little tricks and tips we have learned along the way and ones that we find work the best for most of us!

Tracey and Shelleyrae - Thanks so much for the links and advice. I did download a bunch of fonts yesterday so I will definitely do the download you mentioned above. I was worried that all this downloaded would bog down the computer. I'll also be checking out all the helpful links you posted.
