PSP8 background issues

OK girls, I've been working w/ PSP for years now since version 6 and I'm a little confused..

I'm trying to make a kit, and the papers I did fine, but after I've created all my elements, I went back in to make the preview and realized they all have a white background..

I saved them all as .jpg files...

Here's what I've done to try to fix it, to no avail...

1) open the image, delete the white background w/ the magic wand, but it stays white..

2) open the image, click on the white background, invert around my image, cut, paste as new image (which is on a transp. bckgrnd) but then i've tried to save it as a gif and a png and neither has worked, when I reopen in psp, they have the white background

What else can I do?

I even used the export - gif optimizer, and it shows a transparent background, then I save it figuring it worked, then I reopen and again it has a white background..

As I've stated before, this has never happend and just recently made other things that never gave me a problem

could I have hit something? I don't get why its doing this now...

I saved them all as .jpg files... Wrong way to do this, images with transparent background need to be save only as a ,png file or as a .psp file format!!!

a) If you keep this layer as a background layer when you hit delete the background color will remain the same as in your materials palette, you need to promote your background layer to a raster layer.
a) DON'T try to even save these as .gifs!!! You only can save them as .png's!!!

b) Here is a link to a search of the PSP fourms using the term png, hopefully you can find the answer in there if my suggestions don't work

If you are using PSP7, I know you need to get all the patches for .png to work correctly.
I am not aware of any problem with .png's in PSP8!!

Also make sure to check your file format preferences, select PNG tab and select the choice: Load and save transparency to / from layer transparency. This will not fix any older .png's that you have made but it will fix any new .png's you make.

Thanks Haley, you've always been good at helping me out...

I tried making a eyelet today and it did the same thing....

I saved it as a png but when I reopened it, it was still white... I really don't understand why its doing this...

I checked the file format and that was checked as you stated..

I tried to search the forums for png and it told me it was too short a search, and your link didn't work..

Thanks for your help!

http://www.khiba.com/PSP/acompindex2.htm

I did exactly as it said, and the preview in the PNG optimizer window showed it as being a transparent background, and I saved it... then when I closed out and reopend, IT HAD A WHITE BACKGROUND AGAIN!!!!!! arghhhhhhhhhh

Here's the attachment of it...

can you look at it and tell me if its transparent or white for you????

TIA and I truely appologize for being such a pain in the butt!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the non-working link!!

But I can get a lot of posts if I go to the PSP forum, click the search button to search the PSP forum and type in (.png's)
I have a feeling you need to update with all the patches that PSP8 has, There is a link to those also somewhere here in the PSP forums.
But this .png has worked for you in the past right? Transparent background used to be present after you saved them?
I am sorry I don't have time to track it down for you, but I am AGAIN running late for work!!

What about this, when you are going to save as a .png do you see a Options Button on that save as dialog box? click it and see what it has checked in there!!! Shot in the dark...

well if you don't see anything then why the heck does it open up as a white background for me????? man this is frustrating... I've always saved as jpg.. I know now that I shouldn't but I've never had a problem before...

So I couldn't tell ya if its because of the png or not...

now I'm totally lost, if you dont' see anything but I do... strange!!!!!

when I click the save options it comes up as...

1)NONinterlaced checked under interlacing

2)Optimized palette under file size optimization
