General copying question

Not sure what to "call" this? Say I have a plain Letter, for example the 'home work alpha' from the weekend? How could I color that in with the same pattern as a paper? So I have a plain letter, and 2 coordinating papers and I want use one of the papers to 'cover' the letter? Same question would apply if I was using a font. Did I just confuse everyone?

Hi, Just use your selection tool to select the part of the alpha that you want and when it is selected set your pattern to your background image (paper) in your pattern palette and flood fill...

If you want this to apply to your fonts while making them just make sure your pattern is selecting in the pattern box (background box) and it should appear!!
hth's!!

Thats the part I don't know how to make happen, how to get the background as my pattern to flood fill. Sounds like you understood my convoluted question though!

You have to save the pattern into your "pattern" folder in PSP. Either open the file in PSP and click "save as" then navigate to your pattern folder and save it there, or find the file on your computer and copy it. Then navigate to the Pattern folder in PSP and paste it there. At least that would be for windows users. If you have a Mac, I can't give you much direction.

After it is saved in patters, you can pull it up on the materials palette.

IF you don't know how to navigate to the correct folder let me know.

you actually do not need to save the pattern to your pattern folder to use it!
Just have the image open that you want to use for it's pattern, the paper image.
Then up where your two color palettes are click on it with your left mouse and a box will open in there you will see 3 tabs, color, Gradient, pattern and a check box to add textures.
Click your pattern tab and it opens up your pattern choices, towards the top you will see the background paper you want to use as your fill for your text, click it and it will show up where your color choice once was...but for it to show up on your text it needs to be in the lower box, just click that little half arrow and the colors change places. Also it helps to have the All Tools box checked (Right below the two color boxes).
Also when doing text remember that you need to have the text highlighted in the text dialog box!
Also if you need to change the line width or background color, right click on the text layer and choose properties!
You also can do this a whole other way, duplicate the image that you want to use for you text, do your text as selection and then copy and paste as new image and now you have your text with the background image right there....
Have fun!!

Hmm, don't think I new about that one--thanks for the tip! Good quickie way to do it but I would still save it to the folder for future ease of use. Thanks again

Ok I have a question... How would you turn a 300ppi 10x10 paper image into a pattern swatch?
What if it had a really varied background, say some leaves and or flowers at the side that you might want to keep in your text image?
I really do not know and curious the steps you would take???

I *think* you are talking about making a seamless tile, which I have only given minor attempts at doing. In PSP9 there was a tiling option but it never worked too well for me and from what I read in posts, it didn't work well for others. I have also looked at some tutorials which for me seemed a bit confusing, and I am usually pretty good at learning stuff like this. I don't know about PSP X now, as I haven't tried to tile anything with it. But, I can say that I haven't had any problems with the 12x12 papers that I have saved as patterns--probably b/c I only use them to fill small areas, so the tiling isn't an issue. If it ever was, I guess I'd just have to use a different method of filling an area with the pattern or paper.
