spiral text in PSP 9

Hi!
I was wondering if it is possible to create spiral text in PSP 9? I have seen lots of it in Photoshop and in several galleries.

Thanks!
Jen

I will try to post a link to Anna Aspnes's Chin Up page. Isn't it beautiful?

Yes that is a beautiful LO, but then again what isn't if it is created by Anna!!

This also can be done in PSP.
First you need to know and be able to use preset shapes, I have one that is in the shape of a spiral.
Draw out your vector preset shape onto a transparent layer, you might have to set the properties and remove the background color, this depends on what your spiral shape looks like.
Then choose your Text tool and still on your vector layer, hold your mouse inside those bounding boxes until you see the cursor change into a little "A" with a curved little line around the bottom of it, then your text dialog box will come up and you can type.
You can move this text around once you get going so you can make it start anywhere you want it to on the spiral. Type your text in one line, no returns, when you are done with your text, check the eye icon in the layers palette to hide the line.
Then right on your Vector layer and choose convert to Raster layer.
Whalaa...spiral text!!
Additional info. you can search for preset shapes on the web.
You also can use .wfm files from MS Office, here is a link to a site that tells you how to use these files to get more preset shapes.

Have fun and let us know if you have any other questions!

Excellent!! Thanks so much for the help. Now, my question is---I picked a spiral from the site you linked. How do I add it into the preset shapes?

Thanks again for your help!

If it is a Zip file, download it and just unzip it into your My PSP Folder/Preset Shapes
and you should be able to see it in your preset shapes tool box...
You just have to make sure that that folder (preset shapes) is in your file locations in your preferences.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to thank you for your questions and answers as I have learnt something new too and can't wait to add this type of thing to my layouts!

So Jen, thanks for asking and Hayley thanks for answering!

Editted to add: I've just been playing with this but can't figure out how to make the text start from the outside and go inwards as Anna did on hers..what am I over looking??

Jo

First start with vector text, then choose (see the little A with curved line) the beginning of the spiral where you want your text to start.
You also can move your text around the spiral when the bounding box it there (after hitting apply) watch for a little bitty box that moves along the line of the vector shape. Sometimes it's hard to see if it is under your text...but it's there and wherever you move it to that is where your text will begin at. However it you have your alignment set to middle or right, that is how your text will be laid down.
Does that make sense??? ;o)
