Seamless Backgrounds

Ok...can someone PLEASE help me while I still have hair left!! This is so basic, but I just can't figure out how to make a seamless pattern for scrapbook paper. I'm using PSP7 and when I make my pattern I go to "Selections" then "Convert to Seamless Pattern", it makes like a white cloud around the edges. I've tried the Redfield filter Seamless Workshop but it turns my pattern into a jumbled mess. I'm so lost! How does everyone make all those neat patterned papers? Is there a special filter? Any help would really be appreciated!

Thanks!

Depending on your pattern, you might have to copy and paste to fill up your paper image.
I know what you are saying about the seamless methods you have tried, they only seem to work well on vary vague patterns or one's you do not care about if they get messed up a little (blurred/stretched).
If your image has the exact same colors around the edges it works well to create a pattern and then use the flood fill tool to fill your paper.

Here is a link to a lot of tutorials and some of them are even for PSP7....hth's

here's what I do

1. Try the Simple quick Tile filter
2. Duplicate the pattern layer, make the top layer seamless. Use the mask/eraser to remove some of the not so greay areas to reveal the original, STAY AWAY from the edges! Those are seamless
3. Seamless patterns work best for objects with very indistinct properties, like grass, sand, or patterns with obvious repeats, like floral fabric (where you don't make it seamless, you just keep your design from hanging off the edge).

hth!

I prefer to do it manually, using a plugin called PatternEditDo which is in a bundle from DCSpecial (it's free). It basically quarters and rearranges the image so you can see how the seam would look. Then you manually smooth the seams out, using smudge and push and clone or whatever (it's an art all to itself). Click it again, and you have your seamless tile.

This took me about ten minutes.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I did some digging on the internet and found an old program called "20/20" and it's wonderful. One click and it does all the work for me. I love it. Thanks again...you guys rock!
