Question Saving as a PDF???

I'm getting ready to take some of my layouts to a print shop here in town and the owner said he wanted the files as PDFs. Can you save them that way? I looked under SAVE AS and PDF isn't listed. What should I do?

I didn't see a way to convert image files to PDF in Paint Shop Pro (I have version 9), however, I tried opening up both JPG and PNG files in Adobe Photoshop and there IS an option to save as PDF. (I tried it both in PS7 as well as PSE--not sure which version--and they were successful.) Hopefully another PSP user will be able to help. Good luck!

PDF is the format for Adobe Acrobat. You can go to their website http://createpdf.adobe.com/ and you can create PDFs - i don't know for sure what files they accept - but you can look around and see - there is a free trial - 5 pdfs for free

Other than the mentioned trial version, there are a lot of programs out (or online services for free) you can use to convert a file to a pdf-file. However, I doubt that the quality is good enough for printing graphics the way you want them to be.
Just the other day I read an article in a computer magazine which compared programs and online services and the most were alright for normal word files, but not nearly as good as Acrobat itself, and often the colours were not right etc. .
Can't you have the pictures developped at a shop where they accept jpgs?

They told me that JPGs were lower quality, and that's why they suggested PDFs. The layouts that I took in were JPGs, but then they suggested the PDFs.....

hmmm.... that's entirely false. PDF files are not image files.. they are an adobe proprietary format used to display groupings of words and images.. To create a PDF file, you must embed graphics which are usually jpg's.. however, saving the resulting file as a PDF will NOT provide a better image quality.. in fact, you will further degrade the images!! Are you sure the shop said PDF and not PSD (photoshop images)?

PSD, PSP and TIFF are non-compressed images and offer higher quality than jpg.. but not PDF. If this shop sticks to its guns on this... I would go somewhere else.. and quickly! Good luck!

He said PDF.
In fact, he wrote down: PDF, 2400 dpi and Embed fonts...

I'll take a couple in as JPGs and see how they come out.
This is a graphics store that's been around forever. I wonder what the deal is...hmmm

I'm pretty sure they did mean pdf. I know from my workplace when we place ads the printing studios often ask the agency for printable pdf files with embedded fonts etc. But they are certainly talking about another quality than what normal consumers can get out of their free .pdf online services .

Our scrapbook LOs are usually sent out as .jpgs and always turn out fine, so I don't think you'll have any problem with yours.
