Goofy question? or not?

A friend gave me a picture of her dog with his tail not visable. She also gave me a picture of the same dog with the tail showing. She wants me to transfer the tail from the bad picture to the picture of the same dog with the tail curled under and not showing.

I have no problem selecting the tail from the bad picture and copying and pasting as a new layer, however, I can't get the color of the tail to match very well with the dogs color.
The two pictures were taken in different lights.

Is there a way to measure the Red Blue Green percentages on the dog and flood fill the tail with the same percentages?

I use PSPX.

How would you get the color of the tail to match the color of the dogs hair?

Thanks,
Duane

What about selecting the main dog colour with the picker and then brushing it on the 'new' tail using the blend mode: colour (legacy) option?

dog tail

Thank's for your suggestion. I ended up merging the tail layer with the other layer, and
cloned the hair from the dogs body. It worked out really nice.
