These pictures are not all square. Some are hearts and paint blots!

Hi,
I am just guessing here at what exactly it is you are wanting ok!!
You want a brush that will be the exact same size and shape as your photo?
That really can't be done unless you either make the brush yourself or get lucky and find one that matches the size and shape of your photo.
There are a couple different ways to add brush strokes to a image or to edge the photo.

You can use any brush you like and apply it around the edges of your photo to give it a distressed look, worn, tattered so to speak.

Or you can add another layer above your photo layer and use a brush of your choice on that layer and then use the deform tool to drag the brush larger to cover you image.
Keep in mind though that a lot of brushes made for PSP are not 300ppi (pixels per inch) so when you enlarge them by dragging them you might end up with a pixelated brush stroke.
Unfortunately PSP9 only does brush size up to 500ppi size, it is an easy enough work around once you get good at your program however!!
I do not know what size PSP8 handles....skipped that version!!

I don't think you are understanding how brushes work exactly (QUOTE i was hoping that i would be able to outline pictures(border them) you can paint on the edges of a photo but not in one brush outline brush stroke like you seem to be referring to. Sorry

Here are some links to some great tutorial sites:
http://www.psplinks.com/index.html
Make sure to check out the Brush downloads link on the left-hand side!!

http://users.adelphia.net/~suzshook/ has tuts for PSP8!!

http://jinnysplace.com/fall/tutorials.htm this one has viewlets you can watch to see how something is done, numerous choices of tut's!!

Another thing to do is to read the forum here for PSP users, making sure that you understand there 45 pages of posts!!! hehe but you can look for ones that talk or mention brushes and in them you will find a lot of useful information!!

Oh forgot to mention that "Masks" in PSP will outline a photo and give it a edged effect, you can see what it looks like on my avatar photo in my post!!
You can find more info about Masks on the psp links page I posted above!!

Hi there....when you say you want to "outline pictures and border them.".... if you're meaning you just want to place a border around a picture...go to IMAGES>ADD BORDERS. (I've already deleted PSP 8 from my machine, but believe it was the same) You can check the size you want and pick the color you want. You can make all 4 sides the same or not. You can add the border....and then add another one of a different color and size if you want. (if you closely look at my cat pic, there is a tiny dark rose border around it)

Also if you go to IMAGES>PICTURE FRAME, there are tons of frames there that you might like. You can find new ones all over the internet. There are also the MASKS Tracey mentioned.

If your not familar with PSP and you don't want to read the book or dink with all of the options and see what they do, there are tons of tutorials on the internet, in addition to those mentioned in this post and in other posts you'll find on this site. It's a lot of fun doing the tuts and learning new stuff.

You can always make borders by drawing rectangles and cutting out holes in them also or layering pictures on top. Have fun!

PSP 8 only outlines an entire image, can't do one layer as 9 will, and won't do shapes in 8 or 9.

A fast way to add a border in any software is to select the object (magic wand set to All Opaque in the match mode in the Options Bar, click on the object) then go to Selection>Modify>Expand a few pixels. Create a new layer under the object and fill with your color of choice.

It's a similar process for making mats and such, there are so many ways. I think I cover 3 or 4 ways in my PSP class, but there are more! My students ask, why do I have to make all these mats in different ways? I think it's important to have as many tools as possible so you can be creative when trying to do something new.

Devour tutorials, you'll find tons of ways to get what you want, work around apparent limitations.
