Inches vs. Pixels - DPI does not compute...

So it occurred to me to wonder how you guys actually achieve a 300dpi resolution when I don't see that option in my PSP. I work in pixels not inches, but when I switch to inches, I still don't get a change in my Resolution options - it still says pixels/inch.

Does anyone know what the Resolution conversion is from inches to pixels? What is the pixels/inch equivalent of 300dpi?

I've been using the standard 72, but if I can get a better resolution, I want to. (without converting to inches). Any input is appreciated.

I'm using PSP6 so maaaaybe it just isn't possible in the old version.

Shelleyrae answered this question just a few days ago, here is the link to that post and her reply which is the fourth one down.
I think I made a HUGE mistake with my LO's

"Quote" ensure your canvas resolution is at 300dpi. Then choose your canvas size in inches which will also determine your pixel size.
eg. a 8x8"canvas at 300dpi is 2400 x2400 pixels
eg. a 12x12" canvas at 300dpi is 3600 x 3600 pixels

The beginning of this tutorial http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scri...ticle_269.shtml shows you how to set up a canvas. "Quote"
Thank you Shelleyrae

dots per inch (dpi) is a printing term that most people use interchangeably with pixels per inch (ppi), even though they are not quite the same thing. Here's a wikipedia article on the difference between dpi and ppi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_per_inch

a resolution of 72 pixels/inch is standard for screen viewing, but 300 pixels/inch is the standard for printing.

A standard 12x12 inch scrapbook page is 3600 pixels by 3600 pixels at 300dpi. if you've been scrapping at 3600 pixels, you are fine, even if the resolution is set to 72.

This tutorial also explains the differences between DPI and PPI and why it is important to use good resolution.

OK, so since I decided to do a couple of baby pages for my best friend, I thought I'd give it a whirl the way you professionals do: 12x12 inches, 300 pixels/inch...

Is it SUPPOSED to be a working document of 50MB?!?! Call me insane, but isn't that a lot of memory? This is before I even add any papers or pictures.... Am I doing something wrong? It seems so excessive.

LOL..no that's about right!!
That is why it is so important to have a computer that is going to be able to handle these images while you are working on them!!
There are other tricks to help make psp respnd better if you are having troubles with that aspect.
But if you're not having those issues, the size of you image is right!!
