PSP: will Corel phase out PSP?

With JASC no longer the owner of PS,. I wonder how much longer PSP will be a viable product... Corel already has its own competitive products on the market (CorelDraw/Painter).. will they just merge features and combine them into their own suite?

I'm not a big fan of Corel (they crushed the Wordperfect suite with bad marketing and bloated features).. hopefully the same doesn't happen to PSP.. I've been using it since the early early days... and I still think it is one of the best photo progs out there for the $$.

Thoughts?

I was a diehard PSP fan forever and ever and ever...but bought PS the same day I heard Corel was buying. All the things I loved about PSP (the nifty user forum where a lot of the developers hung out), it's family feel etcetera were not transferable to Corel. Corel did me wrong with WordPerfect (of course, now I use Word, no choice) and I didn't want to wait for the same thing to happen with PSP. I figure it is inevitable so I thought I might as well switch right away. Last comment: I was in on beta testing PSP9 (which I have) and the way that Jasc released it compared to prior versions was an obvious forelock tugging to Corel. It was pretty sickening. That contributed to my decision to jump ship.

For all those who have hung on or are new users, I have to say it is an absolutely wonderful product for the money and my comments about ownership or possible future don't bear on the product as it sits on the market right now. These grapes are sour only for me--they shouldn't bear on anyone else's opinion.

Well.. you sum up my thoughts exactly! I just didn't want to say them aloud...

I too was a diehard wordperfect user (wayyyy back to the DOS version in fact!). I loved that program and used it through high school and college and beyond.. until, Corel purchased it. Now... It's not even an option (in fact.. I prefer the free Textpad which I use daily now).

I too love PSP.. I loved the simplicity of the product when you just needed to get a quick drawing made... it is quickly becoming a mini photoshop will all the functionality and I'm worried that corel will undo what Jasc did so well.

I also use Photoshop, elements and a host of other photo tools (ie: xnview deluxe).. but still reach for my PSP shortcut when I need some quick work done. I sure hope I can continue reaching for it down the road.

Lol, I often say what I probably shouldn't! I go back to WP for DOS too. I automated our entire office with macros and merges back when the T-Rex roamed. Only the most seriously perverted corporation could have turned me into a MS user. I tried to hang on as long as I could but even when I was dangling from my fingertips from the top of the office tower they couldn't resist banging a hammer on my hands. Much is made of the fact that the actual personnel at Corel has changed but I don't give a hill of beans. The Corp. is the Corp. You have to take the badwill with the good. (I still get mad even as I am typing this--I just cannot fathom how ANYONE could have killed off WP! I mean, do you know how much work it would have taken to destroy it?)
