Question [Help] Cloth Texture

I apologize if this has been covered before. Just point me in the right direction.

I use Paint Shop Pro 7.04 but am familiar enough to be able to use a tutorial from later versions and sometimes, even other software.

I am looking for help giving an image a cloth like texture. I can do linen but I am looking for a different type and honestly, I have no idea what you would call it. I do not even have an example handy that I could post.

So I will make this just a general request for any tutorials or tips that anyone knows for making cloth type textures in PSP. Thanks for your time.

cloth textures

I use PSP 8 & 9 so not sure if this would work for you. You could download some texture brushes and stamp them across a color. Also you can download textures and apply them to your color on another layer or with color you are using. There are many places you can download textures. Again tho they may only be for later versions of PSP.

HTH,
Tina

I like to scan fabrics for texture. I sew a lot so have lots of scraps. From here you can do a few different things. You can convert to B&W and save a small swatch as jpg or bmp and put in your textures folder, but that usually gives the unmatched tile look, even if you do a seamless tile effect on it. I like to save the whole piece as the size and resolution of page that I use and whatever color it is. You can always change it to B&W later if you want.
Then open a new image, fill with the color or design you want. Add the texture as a new layer and using the layer blending modes, play until you find the one that you like. Multiply and Overlay are standard but try them all.

There's a tutorial for PSCS/2 that will give you a denim/twill texture on digiscrapdesigner.

Hi I tried to access that tutorial and I am registered user, but it is a restricted area?
Seems most of the site is for paid members only.... ;o(

Talking You guys r0x0rs!!!!11!

Thank you everyone for all your tips. I have been downloading textures and creating my own so thank you especially for the great links.

I have found that the blend modes Hard Light and Soft Light work even better for subtle effects.
