Help fading edges of photo

I want to make a layout with my dog in the center fading out to a background that I create with a paintbrush I think. Anybody have a tutorial to doing this kind of page of can give me some ideas. I'm stuck in a scrapbooking rut and need to break out!!!

There are a few ways you can do this. One is to use a mask in the shape you want on the layer containing the dog. You can find may PSP masks by searching on any of the search engines. Another way to do it is by using the freehand selection tool. First you need to change the feather option to 30 or so and then draw a shape around the dog. The feathering will add 30 pixels of fading around the edge. You can play with the number to get more or less fading. Make sure you are working on a layer when you use it.

Hope this helps

Here are a few links to sites with thousands of masks, you should be able to find one that you like and that will work in fading out the edges of your photo!
http://tubes.ominix.com/art/masks/index.html
http://www.jansdesigns.com/masks.html

Download or unzip into you My Documents/My PSP Files/Masks
Then open the image you want to apply the mask to, making sure you do not work on your original photo, so make a copy or duplicate of it.
Then use Layers>Load/Save Mask>Load from Disk, then a dialog mask window will open and you can choose the mask of your choice to apply to the photo.
Tracey

PS I have a mask applied to my photo avatar above.
