Elements vs. photowork

I have been looking at so many fantastic layouts here and to me it almost seems like there are two types. There are the ones with great elements that look like "paper-scrapped" such as http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/galle...cat=500&page=1

And then there are the ones that have a digitally composited look such as http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/galle...at=500&page=1. (I am using my own layouts so that I dont "categorize" anyone elses.) Both types look great - but I am starting to wonder where my personal direction is. I want to incorporate both but become a bit overwhelmed. I guess I am creating my own artistic direction and its what pleases me in the end result.

After all this babbling....I guess what my final question is... does anyone else get frustrated with this also?

i think that there are as many different styles as there are scrappers. ok, maybe not AS MANY but there are def. many different styles. a lot of things can BROADLY be lumped into the cagetgory of "paper scrapped or traditional" (for lack of a better phrase) or digital looking pages. i lean more towards the digital looking pages but i also love using texture but then again i dont use very many elements. i can completely understand what you mean. i LOVE the traditional (again, for lack of a better phrase) pages ! i love the digital looking pages! i'm more of a digital-y looking scrapper but i try not to categorize my self. i just do what i like and what feels good to me!! i think that's the important thing! it could be a little of this and a little of that! it could be a lot of this this time and none of that and then vice versa the next time!! okay, so now i'm starting to babble!!! dont know that i've really said much of anything here but i guess i've said something!!
hey, maybe we need a babble section in the forum!!

While I find the paper look fascinating, its amazing to me how well the look can be made on the computer, i do only digital look pages.

I feel the reason for this is that I still paper scrap (a lot). For me the CG is a freeing sort of exercise. I get to let my hair down and do something that I never could on paper

I understand what you are saying, but which do you feel you are more drawn to when you look in your (or other peoples) gallery? Which ones catch your eye more? the paper look or the digital look? That is the only way I could suggest making a decision on which way you want your style to go.

Then again, why should you chose? both of the layouts you linked are fabulous in their own way! You could certainly do both types of scrapping. Maybe THAT is your style!

ok, val, I agree... we need a babbling section, cuz I just did it too!

I personaly go for a more graphic look. If I wanted the paper style look I would probably scrap with paper. With software I like to do what can't be achieved on paper if you know what I mean, but that siad, I don't try ro achieve any particular style. I think that is develppoed quite naturally. I jsut play with my software and have fun! When I see something I like - I stop at that
