trying to use PSP

I have tried on several occasions to follow the directions on the tutorial on using a picture as a background. I can get to where I am copying the picture but when I try to paste it, the menu with "use as a background" is grayed out. I don't know where to go from there. I think the computer generated layouts are so beautiful, but I can't get past square one!

which version of PSP are you using? I am using 8. If you tell me step by step what you have done I can try to help.

Wink

I have the 7.5 version. I am finding the learning curve extremely high in this program. It uses words like raster layers and vector layers and adjustment layers but there is no explanation of them anywhere. I tried to find a book on it in the bookstores but there is practically nothing there and the one book I found is hard to understand. If you can help me with this, I will write a special letter to Santa telling him how VERY good you are! Thanks.

Hannah, I know how you feel.
When I first started using PSP I was very overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. The manual was jibberish to me and I wanted to throw it in the trash. A web site that was very helpful to me:http://www.designsbyjoy.net/ I really learned a lot, and it explained somethings that I didn't understand. I have version 8.1 and there are not a whole lot out there for that one, but there should be plenty for your version. I wish I were at home right now, I could ***ist you better( I have the PSP sites that are vital to me in my favorites), but for now just take a look at this site and this one also:http//www.psplinks.com
I will be home on Saturday. I will check back in and see how you are doing .

This one will explain layers:

It will help you to understand raster, vector, and adjustment layers. HTH,

Thank you, Lisa! What a lovely Christmas present you gave me. I have put the links you gave me on my favorite places. Right after Christmas I will spend some quality time learning how to use this program. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas! Thanks again!

I was very lucky the first group I ever joined for graphics had some of the best teachers and tutorial writers. I learned everything from these women. The best thing you can do when stuck is type in a search engine PSP vector layer and a million tutorials and explanations will pop up. I had psp for a year before I ever touched it. Too complicated for me and then one day out of the blue it all clicked and heck now people pay me to do their graphics and touch up their photos. Best of luck to you.
