Honestly girls, somebody will find you through google using your screen name! I don't get it. Unless it is Jo_Bloggs what help is that, if they (Hypothetical they) are looking for you knowing your screen name already... well, they know it already. And if there is some sensitive info in the profile that you wouldn't want to share, just be sensible and don't put it in there! We have all made decision to share the photos/LOs here and just looking at the bottom of the page when browsing gallery, there are a lot of unregistered members out there... That's how I keep in touch with friends and family all over the globe.

That's a lot of hits, yes, but if you browser through them you will find that they are not all about you! hehehehe Very fun way to find people with the same name, sometimes the hits are for a first name only...jenny or hits on a last name.

my username might come up but it's not til several pages later b/c it's a more common name....

But; as Olga said I have chosen to make my layouts public b/c I like to share them with lots of people on a whim - like when a friend of mine calls to learn to digi and she wants to see a gallery; or my dad who can't figure out how to open photos on his computer.... I can just send him to the gallery

well, of course i just had to google myself after reading this....how fun! All my hits (89 in all) are my galleries around digiland, comments i've left on layouts in the last week, forum posts and one that made me sort of giddy...i'm listed on somebody's Kaboodle list as a fave gallery

LOVE THAT..hehe!

And really I don't mind at all. I really don't think anyone is going to find out anymore about me from googling my username than what they already know from seeing my galleries and in the forums at sites.

I have had forum posts show up in google, but never my galleries. Could it have something to do with the number of photos? Or how many other people view them?

We need a google guru :-)

I'm not really stressing about it, I only googled it for the fun of it. I am VERY aware that I'm out there and have been for a long time. In fact I think there were 14,000 hits or something that came up with my username search. Yes I know those aren't all me, but there were many references to galleries, my blog, my website...etc...I knew most of it would be there. I just hadn't ever googled myself based on my user id and seen my galleries pop up. Was interesting. I have known for years what pops up about me using my actual name as well. It's all part of the "internet" world when you're are online and sharing information. The best thing is to be careful about what you share, but I'll tell you...even things you don't share can be found.

I am not an expert by any means!! But understand a little about search engines. I believe this links are showing up because the URL to galleries are posted at other places around the web.
Ex: if I post my Gallery URL in a forum at whateversite.com or blog the search spiders will come grab it and think it is a relavant searchable link.

Funny that this discussion would come up today since just last night a girlfriend and I were IM'ing about this very thing. She had googled my real name looking for my website, and we were laughing at all the people there were that shared my name. Then I googled my screen name and it's almost allllll scrapbook related stuff...18,300 of them...yeah, I'm active online!

the last few were funny though because they are in Arabic...Arabic writing and then my screen name in English and then more Arabic writing. Who knows.

I'm with Sarah...you just have to be careful what you share online. Never post where you live, where your kids go to school (watch those pictures when you post them...sometimes it's easy to forget that there's a sign in the photo), where you work, etc.
