I find this to be the case. "Way back when" I could look at all the daily posts every day. Now there are so many I have to skim through and comment on the ones that catch my eye. I know there are a lot I'm missing.

I HATE "praise threads"
Ditto--and that's all I have to say on that particular subject.

Lots of good points in this thread. Hopefully it will remind us all to leave a few more heartfelt and deserving comments.

This is such an interesting thread, everyone handles the comments so differently.

I try to reciprocate and actually have the galleries bookmarked in Mozilla of those who are regular commentors in my gallery. There is an option there to "open All Tabsat once" under the bookmarked heading so those galleries will get checked for new layouts first.

When I post a layout here at SBB, I will actually go through and comment on as many as I can possibly hit an the hour following that post. Often it may be between 30 and 90 comments, depending on how demanding my kids are at the time. My life is crazy busy and that's just how I have to do it. I may not get to comment at all in one week, but get to do it several days the next week. I make sure that I only put up a layout when I have time to comment.
Now the comments I make may not be long, in fact, may even be only a short sentence, but they are heartfelt, never obligatory. I try to hit everyone, the ones that rock my socks off, and the ones you can tell may be createted by newbies to digital. Every single layout is praiseworthy, and whether you like the technique or not, whether you thingk the photo skits are awesome or dreadful, those layouts are special to the creator and they have shared something of themselves with us. And even a small comment on a newbie's layout may make the difference whether they ever muster the courage to post again or not.

When it comes to my own layouts, I love reading the comments, I truly do! But they are my sweet babies in those layous and snippets of my life that are important to me. There's a good chance they won't effect you any way or the other and that's okay. I just enjoy giving you glimpses int my crazy life. I have learned not to judge the success of a layout by the number of comments. That said, looking at the numbe of views your layouts get is encouraging as well. Many folks will open up your layout because something intrigued them enough to look...that's almost as good as a comment in my book. SO if a layout has 4 comments but 34 views, then 34 folks took the time to be interested enough to look. And that's kind of cool!

All that said, and I apologize, I know it was a lot!... When I post a lyout at another gallery for a CT, I comment on 10. That's it. SBB is my digital home, and we all have that one digital place where we hang our hat. You aren't likely to ever see me with 9000 posts at any other gallery , or even a tenth of that. It's not because I'm a drop and run poster, just not enough hours in the day! But I hope the number of layouts will always be about a tenth of the number of comments I put into an gallery I post in.

Okay, Ernie, I think I officially bumped you from the soapbox, someone else's turn now!

Oh, this is a great thread! I am coming up on my one year anniversary at SBB. Like Laurie, I consider SBB to be my digital community. It is my digital community because I have spent the time here to get to know people and learn the etiquette (hopefully!) It is a large time commitment to nurture my involvement in SBB as my "third place." I cannot imagine trying to do the same at two or more other boards. Soooo... perhaps the same is true for CT folks who are just trying to make their posting commitment. ? I can forgive that, because I know who the other devoted members of this board are, and who my friends are, and they are largely the same group. I post comments as often as I can, spending more time when I have it, and sometimes reciprocally. It is good to let the people who encourage you know that you are here for them, too. I suppose my message is that I try to be understanding to the fact that we all lead busy lives and each of us "dials in" our level of participation, and it is all ok.

I do have a gripe with random CT posts, and that is the featured credits and attribution with a total absence of backstory. I am less interested in commenting on what I see as basically an add, than I would be if it was a shared glimpse into someone's art and story. That is just my deal, I really enjoy the personal connection that happens when I get to read the meaning behind a LO.

Thanks to everyone frankly posting on this.

Blessings,

Laurel
