I'm not very good at re-commenting the people who comments my LO's. But I do spend quite some time in the gallery getting inspired - and I comment on the LO's that gets to me.
Maybe we should start a comment-club ;o)

I usually only comment on the galleries I regularly post to, but occasionally I'll browse through and see what is happening in other areas and if something really pulls me in to look at it, I'll leave comments there as well.
I do regularly scan the galleries I post to, and try to leave as many comments as I can there. As far as responding to those who comment on my work and leave comments on their layouts. I honestly don't know if I do or not. I hope I do, but I don't consciously make note of who has left me feedback. I'm just grateful for whatever I get!
I like some of the self-impsed rules listed by other members, and I think I'm going to try harder and comment on all those involved in the same challenges that I do myself. That's my goal....not we'll see how well I do.

I'm not saying that I expect a comment back for every one I leave--but recently I posted comments on more than 30 layouts and got no comments back. (I have email notification on all of my layouts and know when/who/what comments are left on them.) I really appreciate it when I get unsolicited comments on my layouts, too--and because I'm so glad those people took the time to notice and comment on my layout in the gallery, I take a look at their gallery and leave a comment. And many times when I see a layout in the gallery with no comments, I'll try to leave one--I just want everyone to keep on scrapping and developing their abilities, even if their layouts are not "stunning." I'm glad this thread has got everyone thinking about commenting

Hmm, I never really thought much about reciprocating comments - I actually see it differently. When I comment on a LO it's because I've came upon it & really liked it. I feel like whenever I get a reciprocated comment, then, it's because they felt obligated to browse my gallery and find something to comment on. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I often feel that way when I get a comment back from someone who I just commented on.
But, the gallery moves so fast, that it might be a good idea for me to at least browse a gallery of those that have commented on my LO and then do my comments from there - I just never put much thought into the reciprocating thing because I always feel like they might not be sincere comments and only obligatory ones.

I am on some CTs and still comment Ok, there are days when I drop a LO and run, but then I tend to go back when I have a minute, and make sure that I at least return the favour to the ones, who took troubles to look at mine (that's the minimum I do at the other sites) at SBB I tend to spend quite a lot of my time admiring the gallery, and leaving the love, especially looking out for the unattended ones! I remember what it was being new, and desperately craving some comments as to guide me, help me grow!

In many ways I very much agree with you. I don't think anyone should feel obligated to leave a "reciprocating" comment. And it should never be made into a rule. And I, like you, don't really want comments that are left for me JUST BECAUSE I left a comment. But I do believe in visiting the gallery of the person who left me a comment and when I do, I almost always find a layout that I like and want to leave a comment on. So I guess when I said I make it a point to leave a comment I should really have said that I make it a point to visit their gallery. And I will never play a praise game. I feel like I'm begging people to look at my work and that's something I just can't do. I know that others don't feel that way and I say "go for it" for them. But it just isn't me. I cruise "Today's Gallery Posts" almost every day, sometimes several times a day, and leave random posts throughout the day. I'll have to confess that when I recognize a poster who is active in the forums, I am more inclined to take a closer look at their layout and leave a comment, because I feel a connection to them through the forums. But it's because I want to, not because I think I should.

I agree with you completely, Ernie! I'm not crazy about praise games because a)I feel obligated to comment and b)I feel like the comments I get might not be sincere (some are and sometimes it's a nice idea to get yourself some exposure, but, I think most posts are simply because they have to because they're playing the game).
And, I, too, am more drawn to names that I see in the forums or even ones that I know often comment on my LOs.
I am going to make it a point, though of browsing galleries of people who post to me & I'm sure that'll mean I'll comment more on them!

Ditto on those praise games--I don't like them either. I agree about looking at the gallery of someone who gives me a comment--I can always find something positive to say about one of their layouts. I make my comments as sincere as possible and try to use them to encourage others. As to my original idea in this thread, I think it would be much better if there was some reminder to visit the gallery and leave a few comments anywhere, not focusing on returning comments.
