March Avatar Challenge

To avoid the seasonal issues... let's do avatars that show off our favorite books, authors or characters!

Carla's roped me into a book club... which I AM enjoying but I'm still addicted to Harry Potter.

What about the rest of you? What books can you just not put down? What characters seem more like friends than the folks you meet IRL?

Here's mine!

This book is our book club choice for April, but I finished it, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I highly recommend this one!

This book has been referred to as "the big fat greek wedding" of an Italian family. I found out after I read it that the story was based on a true person that the author met in Greenwich Village. Quite an amazing life the lady lead. The names were all changed, and the book is considered fiction, but most of the book was based on true experiences. Now I have to go find all of this author's books. I'm going to start with The Big Stone Gap Trilogy series. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time. Runners up are Secret Life Of Bees, and The DaVinci Code, but hands-down, my current fave is Lucia, Lucia!

Umm, I will have to do one a day. Starting with Roddy Doyle.

Quote: When I think of happy and home together I see the curtain blowing and the sun on the wall and being snug and ready for the day...I see flowers on the curtains -- but there were never flowers on the curtains in our room. I asked my mammy when I was over there last week did we ever have flowery curtains and she said No, they'd never changed them, always stripes.

I was totally sucked up in the memories of Paula Spencer. Not the story of her life. Not her shabby marriage or rotten job or shaky alcoholic coping. But her memory. Her need to know that her memories are real. Her confusion and despair in not being able to figure out what is, what was, what never was and all the shades between. Her fear that the blotches on the snapshots are part of the original images and not the mildew of time. Her incredible joy and solace in the small slivers of memories that she believes are real. That she can believe in. But more than anything, I was compelled to keep reading by the strength she has in taking the photographs out again and again and again even though I asked her not to.

Stacy...I'm with you, I LOVE Harry Potter too! I just finished Order of the Phoenix and am anxiously awaiting the Half Blood Prince. But DS has first dibs on it so I probably won't get to read it until Autumn rolls around, LOL. Hm, are we twins or what? We both dig Harry Potter AND sushi!!

Nevermore, I figured this challenge was right up your alley. Can't wait to see all the variations that you come up with!

Zee- LOL about sharing a passion for HP and sushi! Luckily my boys aren't old enough to read yet, so I'll the new HP all to myself come July. I had to get a graphic from the books and not the movies... I'm not thrilled with how condensed the movies are.

FM, it isn't the avatar that is going to kill me, it's writing the book review! Of course I love this challenge. In fact, I am trying to pitch the admin to have a regular Monday or Tuesday night scrap a la literary (haven't actually revealed that last part yet, lol).
