I took the plunge!

Thanks to Ali, I took the plunge and downloaded the trial version of Photoshop 7. I am sure I am giong to love it. I'm a little scared though. You know how it is starting any new program. There is so much to learn!!
Send any hints, tips, or advice my way!! The trial version freezes up a lot. That doesn't happen with the real thing does it?

Sandra

I don't have any problems with mine freezing up. Probably some kink with the demo. I love photoshop! I am trying to think of the first things I learned about it. I know one of the first things I realized with photoshop was that you could drag files and you don't have to copy and paste to layer. You just open the files and drag them over to your LO. Silly me, but that was the coolest thing when I started, LOL. The marquee tool has a fixed size option and you can determine the inches or pixels to crop or select an area. I use that all the time. You can download all sorts of goodies like brushes, styles, and actions from http://share.studio.adobe.com/ . I hope you enjoy photoshop! -Ali

Thanks Ali! I'm seriously like a kid in a candy store. I don't know where to start first. I know there are some awesome brushes at The 5th Muse that only work in Photoshop. I was so bummed because I was using PSP. Now I can use them!! YIPEE!

Sandra, I downloaded the PS 7 trial last summer (Windows), and played around with it for my 30 days. I didn't have any problems with lock-ups. (At least not that I can recall.)

I would recommend that before you take the really big plunge, and purchase it, you might want to check how much memory you have vs. what they recommend is required to run PS. I'm sure it's quite a memory hog. It could be that a little additional memory would fix the lock-ups.

In the meantime, enjoy!

PS -- I eventually bought PS Elements, so I'm not a PS expert. Just had a little experience and a thought about memory. <end of disclaimer>

Thanks Janet. I am aware of the disk space required to run the program and I have plenty of disk space. It only seems to do it when opening a new file. So there must be a glitch in the download version.

Thanks!

The demo should not be locking up anymore than the full version. Please check into your system and how it stacks up to the requirements listed for Photoshop. Would hate you to spend the money and then find out you needed to do something else too!
Tonya

You can also check at adobe.com about any KI on locking up when launching.

Yes, when I upgraded to PS from PSP, it shocked me to see wht a resource hog PS was and is.. But I stole some memory from DH and it is still a little slow but bearable.
What also might help is to set your scratch disk to use a different drive, I have 4 hard drives that I use for scratch disks, and it has really helped me.

The first think I fell in love with tht is different from psp, is the abilty to change your font. Oh wow!!
And also the stroke feature is one of my favourites, and the healing patch is WOW.

Thanks Tonya and Natsha! I re-downloaded the trial version and it is working great now! It acctually seems much faster than my PSP. It is very different though! It's goign to take some getting used to. How much did you all pay for your PS? I have seen a wide variety of prices from 150-600. Just wondering why so different.
