Question Montague style

I can't wait for the further chapters in the next SBB magazines, LOL! I need to know NOW how to do these! I want to know how to fade the edges of the photos and how to blend them all together.

Can anyone kind of get me started?

are you talking about feathering the edges?

If so, use the marquee tool and select the photo. Then right click and choose feather...(play around with the number of pixels you want) then click edit copy...go to your new file (where you are building the collage) and click edit paste. then you can resize as you want.....

hope that helps and that is what you are looking for? you can then also play with the opacity of the layer to make it blend into the background more.

A while back Anna pointed me to this site, www.thinkdan.com there are two tutorials on Montages and dealing with layer masks. Sounds scary, but really easy after some practice. I also do something similar to what Carole suggested. I edit the photo, then enter the amount to be feathered, I like large numbers like 250px. Select the area with the marquee tool and drag over to your LO.

Example of Montage I did that would apply to the tutoral

This was also in the march 04 ezine

I'll be covering it in depth in the May Ezine, but I use layer masks achieve the faded look.

Thanks Alisondiane for the heads up ! ! ! Sorry, Anna, it is so hard to wait ! But tomorrow is the day, yippy, for the new magazine.

I still haven't tried this yet, it is still so intimidating.

Once you get the understanding of how mask work, it is actually easy to do. Don't let it intimidate you. I find it helpful when learning something new to print out the tutorial, and sometimes you just have to have patience and practice before you get it down. -Ali

Intimidating to the max ! The two things that seem impossible for me to understand are masks and blending styles. I know, I know . . . I just need to spend the time practicing. But I do not want to practice, I want to scrap instead, LOL !
