Adobe photoshop 7 versus CS

Has anyone used adobe photoshop CS yet? I'm thinking of upgrading and i have heard that it is not worth it. I have heard they took photoshop 7 split it into 2 and CS is only half the program.

Looking for thoughts, opinions, comments, etc...

I haven't heard that one. A lot of people that I have talked to seem to like CS. Maybe you are thinking about elements, I have heard that photoshop elements is like an incomplete photoshop. Don't know though, since I haven't used PS elements. I think I might look into it a little later. I believe there is a trail version you can download. I haven't done it yet, b/c I don't want to get hooked right now. Can't afford to get hooked on CS at the moment, LOL. There is another thread about it where there are a few more comments. Let me know what you think if you download the free trail! -Ali

Worth upgrading from PSE2 to CS?

Dena, I have CS and can tell you I love it! Don't have PS 7 though so I can't really compare the two.

I had 7, and now I am using Cs.

I LOVE Cs. The photo filter is great, I love the lens blur and I use it often, text on a path is fabulous, I like the new file browser.

I am really happy I upgraded!!!!!

That is so not true about CS! (I worked for Adobe for 2 years as the Product Manager for Photoshop and Illustrator and can tell you that I'm sure I would have known is something like that was being planned.) It doesn't even make sense. CS is all I use and is a fantastic program with tremendous upgrades from 7. If you are a beginner user, than honestly, I don't think an upgrade is necessary, as 7 is also fantastic, but if you consider yourself intermediate or advanced, then yes, upgrade!

Sorry, but that just about offended me that someone would even tell you that! LOL...I LOVE photoshop and Adobe, they are nothing but committed to their products!

From Adobe:
Adobe Photoshop CS Upgrade
To install upgrade successfully, you will need a licensed version of Photoshop 7.0 or earlier on the same platform as this purchase.
NOTE: Upgrade does not apply to Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe licensed users.

My (very) Quick ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS (8) review.
New Features:
- 16 bit full Support? once again most filters don't work.
- Built in RAW conversion
- Photomerge (Stitch images) Finally vailable in PS
- Photo Filters (simulates color filters): If you like automated features
oo:
- Match Colors: You need a similar range of colors for this to work, but when it works... it works great.
Shadow/HighLights: good for a quick fix, but you'll still need the curve tool on complex images. :smirk:
- New Filters: Only three?
Average Blur:
Lens Blur:
Fibers: :smirk:
- Layer Comps: A fancier History of your work... not sure that most home users will use this. :smirk:
- Export to Flash: I wasn't expecting much and I was not disapointed.... exports only... no frame rate control/works well with vector shapes.
- Automatically crop and straighten
- Customize picture packages with more than one image
- Text on a Path: It's about freakin' time!
New Tools? only one... Color Replacement Tool.
Avoids selcting/coloring a specific color... works like the Magic Eraser but Paints. :smirk:

Some of the new features are great for work flow like the Layer Comps. There addition of overdue features like Text on a Path.
there is still plenty of room for improvment... the ability to use the displace map directly from a channel... Simple things like the color match feature, auto crop and the built in RAW support can justify the purchase if you are a pro looking to do thing faster but there isn't a whole that you can't do in PS7.

there was a specila offer to upgrade from PSE on adobe's website not too long ago.
