Question Cost of Photoshop

I am in the market for software that will help me accomplish what I see on EZine. When I was looking at Photshop, the cost was $200 - $800!! Is this really what it costs to have an adequate PhotoShop? Is there an alternative software that is more affordable but as good?

The top programs are of course Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, Ulead PhotoImpact, and Microsoft Digital Image Pro. I don't think you'll be unhappy with any of these programs. All but PS are under $100.

If you don't want to go all out with the full PS version you could always go with Elements which is lacking in just a handful of the features, is still feature rich, and is a fraction of the price. I only moved to the full version because I got a gret deal on it and wanted to play with the missing features

Here is a link to a forum discussion about a book by Richard Lynch for Photoshop Elements.

A Great Newsletter for PSE

The book is called "The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements", I think. He provides tools on a CD that comes with the book that add back some of the functionality Photoshop has that PSE doesn't. So, for the cost of PSE, plus the cost of the book, you can get a "pumped up" PSE. Might be something to investigate.

Here's his web site:

I saw the book at Costco before Christmas. I'm working my way through the book (slowly), and learning a lot.

I have both Paint Shop Pro 8 and Photoshop 7. If you're speaking in terms of just the software itself, I don't think you'll find a program quite as powerful as PS, thus the price.

However, PS has a really high learning curve...compared to PSP, anyway (I haven't tried the other programs mentioned). When it comes right down to it, though...any of the other programs can do just as well as PS, in the hands of someone who can use it well. Just looking at some of the layouts in the gallery is testimony to that.

You can invest in any of the less-expensive programs mentioned, and turn out a finished product that is just as good as one made in Photoshop, once you know the program and what it can do
