Camera RAW and PSCS3

Just recently upgraded to PSCS3 form PSE5 and also got a Nikon D60 D-SLR camera. I can't open my camera raw (NEF) files in PSCS3 even with the camera raw feature in Bridge. I have to convert them first to TIFF. Am having learning overload. Thought I might find the answer here faster than trying to figure it and research on my own. Any help appreciated!

You might check on the lastest RAW drivers for the camera either with Adobe or Nikon. The dirivers are for the type of camera.

You need to go to download the latest RAW converters. Same thing happened to me when I got my D80 a couple of years ago.

Actually when I got my camera, I believe they had a beta version of it and the real converter wasn't available for a couple of weeks. Go to Adobe or possibly clicking on check updates in Photoshop or Bridge will do it also. It looks like 4.3.1 is the latest Raw Update. You can check your version to see which one you are on.

Ah, so much new stuff to learn...good luck.

Thanks,
I went ahead and installed all the software that came with my camera and also figured out how to get the Camera Raw update and got it installed. My camera isn't listed but it is a very recent release. Guess I will play the waiting game for now. At least now I know what to watch for --so appreciate learning that.

The D60 is certainly supported by the latest Camera RAW update... if it is not working, you might not have installed it correctly. You sure it is not working? In Bridge, you should be able to double-click a D60 .NEF and have Camera RAW open automatically for it..

Sorry I didn't think to check back for more responses. Big Thanks Pesto. But no it is not working. In Bridge all I have are icon views ending with .NEF. When I double click on it I am taken to PSCS3 and get a message "Could not complete your request because of a program error" . In Bridge highlighting the file and pressing Ctrl+R to open Camera Raw does nothing. From what I understood of the installation process all I do is remove the old file and paste in the new one. Followed the instructions anyway but can't remember now the location path. The one thing that didn't seem right was the new downloaded update did not have the same file namestated in the instructions. Just checked the System Info under Help in PSCS3 and it shows Camera Raw 4.3.1 for installed plugins...which was a change from 4.0 Also noticed that it listed my operating system as Windows NT? but I am using Vista Home Premium. Have had PSCS3 only about 3 weeks so everything is new. Was surprised I was even able to locate the information about the plugin updates.

Ah.. Vista...! Just kidding... hmm that's strange. I would recommend you uninstall everything CS3 related and reinstall it all, take all the updates and try again. You might have 2 versions of the RAW plugin out there causing a conflict.. but it should work perfectly.
