Moving a small selection

Ok this has been really bugging me. I insert a shape, duplicate it and want to move it with my mouse but can't cause the shapes too small. Similar with text. I write something at 18 pts but ten want to adjust it's placement. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think it may be because the bounding box is in the way when the selection is very small? In the options bar untick the bounding box & I think you'll find it moves fine.
I sometimes use nudging too, with move tool selected hold down shift & use the up, down sideways arrows to move. There are a couple of really good selection tutorials at http://user.fundy.net/morris/redirect.html

If you are clicked on the layer, you can always nudge it with your arrow keys.

I sometimes zoom in really close up just to move things a little - easier to see what I'm doing.

Also, somewhere, there's a way to turn off the automatic selection feature - that way, when you have a layer selected you would be able to move it without putting the cursor directly over the tiny piece. Sorry, I can't remember where to turn it off. I usually just use my arrows if I have a hard time with the mouse.
